Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - I admit: I swooned over Corey Feldman as a kid in the '80s and '90s. The bad-boy attitude, raspy voice, the hair - paired with his undeniable charm - skyrocketed him up the Hollywood ladder and into international heart-throb territory by age 15. In this incredibly personal memoir, Corey tears down that veneer and shares what life was really like for him all those years, from his start in the business at age 3 up through the loss of his best friend, the \"other\" Corey, Corey Haim, as an adult. As I listened to Corey tell his story, I was shocked, disturbed and sickened at the abuse he suffered - emotional, physical and sexual, which led to his drug addiction and several suicide attempts - so much so, that at times, I found myself pausing to calm down and reach for more tissues. The writing is lucid and well-paced - and Corey's raw and emotional telling makes for an unbelievably intimate listen. Highly recommended. Jessica, Audible Editor

Publisher's summary

A deeply personal and revealing Hollywood-survival story.

Lovable child star by age ten, international teen idol by fifteen, and to this day a perennial pop-culture staple, Corey Feldman has not only spent the entirety of his life in the spotlight, he's become just as famous for his off-screen exploits as for his roles in such classic films as Gremlins, The Goonies, and Stand by Me. He's been linked to a slew of Hollywood starlets (including Drew Barrymore, Vanessa Marcil, and adult entertainer Ginger Lynn), shared a highly publicized friendship with Michael Jackson, and with his frequent costar Corey Haim enjoyed immeasurable success as one half of the wildly popular duo "The Two Coreys,"spawning seven films, a 1-900 number, and "Coreymania" in the process. What child of the eighties didn't have a Corey Feldman poster hanging in her bedroom, or a pile of Tiger Beats stashed in his closet?

Now, in this brave and moving memoir, Corey is revealing the truth about what his life was like behind the scenes: His is a past that included physical, drug, and sexual abuse, a dysfunctional family from which he was emancipated at age fifteen, three high-profile arrests for drug possession, a nine-month stint in rehab, and a long, slow crawl back to the top of the box office.

While Corey has managed to overcome the traps that ensnared so many other entertainers of his generation—he's still acting, isa touring musician, and is a proud father to his son, Zen—many of those closest to him haven't been so lucky. In the span of one year, he mourned the passing of seven friends and family members, including Corey Haim and Michael Jackson. In the wake of those tragedies, he's spoken publicly about the dark side of fame, lobbied for legislation affording greater protections for children in the entertainment industry, and lifted the lid off of what he calls Hollywood's biggest secret.

Coreyography is his surprising account ofsurvival and redemption.

Thank you for this true insight of Hollywood life.

I love that Corey acted out the character's in his book. Just shows what a talented actor he really is. I have always been a Haim fan and I didn't agree that it was ok to "expose" those very private ways about him cause he is no longer here with us to defend his self. Though as I listen to this whole story Feldman knew Haim and loved him. I respect that. For Feldman I wish nothing but love and peace for him.

This connects the dots for me

I always thought Corey, when he is not playing a silly or mischievous character, was a little awkward, a bit fragile seeming. He often had this nervous, scared rabbit look in his eyes. This book is the perfect explanation. Anyone skeptical of his claims of abuse have only to watch him carefully in his teen movies and interviews of the 80s and early 90s. It will become obvious.

And I gotta say, how great were his Michael Jackson and Corey Haim voices? I was muay impressed. Absolutely spot on.

Interesting and Engaging

I listened in the hope of learning more about the “star making machinery” in Hollywood. I sense that I only got glimpses of what goes on behind the casting and deal-making process. I also suspect that some of the stories about Mr. Feldman’s dysfunctional family were left on the cutting room floor. Regardless, this sounded like an honest, insightful and courageous memoir. The author shares hard-learned lessons and colorful anecdotes. Ultimately, Mr. Feldman’s positive spirit shines through. A worthy listen!

Just what I expected - worth the credit!!

I've always been a fan, but knew he was troubled. It was just as I had expected regarding the Hollywood scene & the rat pack in the 80's. If anyone believes this does not happen, you are obviously living under a rock. Well written & heart felt. Corey does a great job with the narration & his voices are amazing for the other characters. I consider him a survivor & can't imagine the heartache he has felt losing the friends & those "close" to him that he had either worked with or partied with. I believe every word and can understand why he believes he is in danger with the newest wave of sexual accusation. Keep doing YOU, Corey. *thumbs up*

Authentic and Informative

Corey Feldman did an amazing job of narrating his own autobiography. I don't think listening to Coreyography would have been as effective if someone else read it. Corey's voice is so distinctive and engaging.

What I found most interesting was the descriptions of Corey's childhood and adolescence. The frequent exposure of drugs to child actors back then is alarming. The most upsetting relevation is how adults actually use the drugs to manipulate child actors. I'm just happy that Corey survived everything and is doing well despite the lack of support and guidance from his parents.

Reading/listening to Corey Feldman's book is way more revealing and appealing than any short news clip or web article that discusses him in the media.
