Confessions of a Transylvanian is a one-of-a-kind, backstage look at the greatest cult movie phenomenon of all time - the live Rocky Horror Picture Show - told by those who lived it. The highest-rated Rocky Horror book on the market, Confessions is a moving snapshot of life in a Rocky Horror cast that captures the grit, language and teenage angst of a group of fishnet-clad performers as they explore a world where the only rule was: Don't dream it. Be it.

I personally enjoyed both versions. I was first introduced with the print version. There I had the chance to place my own imagination into each character. The audio version enhanced it even more!
I loved the friendships that developed. It made me a little envious of the bonds that grew through their experiences. I didn't make these types of bonds during my high school years so to experience this through the book was quite enjoyable.
By far my favorite scene was the development of the "Spider Brothers". I laughed so hard through that section. It was hilarious.
Hmmmm good question. Maybe something like, "bonds that last a lifetime"
Confessions of a Transylvanian did an amazing job of introducing me to the whole "Rocky Horror" craze. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book! I can remember a dear friend from high school would talk about his weekend experiences at the local theater watching the live performances. I just didn't get it and wondered what the big deal was all about. Well after reading Confessions of a Transylvanian I TOTALLY get it now! I recommend this book to anyone who (a) wants to recapture the enjoyment of their Rocky Horror years at the theater, (b) didn't get what all the fuss was about and is now open to taking a ride back in time to experience it, or (c) have no idea what we are talking about here but is curious to find out. Read it, you won't be sorry!
The narrator/author telling his own story is the best way to go!!
Oh my goodness!! The stuff his mother said to the people that called his house left me laughing for hours!!!
Honestly the whole thing left me entertained!
Yea if I had the time to listen to it in one sitting I would of loved too. I did find myself listening every chance I got!
First off, shut up and sit down, if you have a problem with cursing, ya better pick another f*cking book!
To say I loved this book is an understatement!! I grew up in another section of Florida and several years later, but boy do I wish I could have been a part of this! Listening to the adventures of the Wild and Untamed Things, brought happy tears to my eyes. I am a theatre gal from way back, so I know how being in a cast becomes a family. To be a part of something so special, is truly a joy.
As is the case with audiobooks read by the author, I feel like I am one of the gang, in a totally non stalker groupie sort of way! Listening to all the backstage mishaps and drama was a thrill. I feel like I have come to know Kevin, Russ, Donnie, Kenny, Boyd, Sunday, Tracey, Andrea, MarK, Iris, Tony, Felicia, Storme and Ron. So many others popped up, but these are the ones that stick in my head.
You get to see, Jack, wink wink, grow up and become a man through his time with the cast. He went from a fan to true part of the show. It was a treat hearing all the backstage insider secrets.
He is also wonderful at explaining, to the uninitiated, why Rocky Horror is such a cult favorite. Why this live experience can mean so much to fans. It is lightning in a bottle, you just hope for a glimpse if not a chance to touch it. It says it is okay to be who you are and welcomes all comers. Don't just dream it, be it!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kevin (Jack) Theis, who is fabulous. His pace is brisk, so if you can't keep up ya better slow it down a notch on the speed settings. You really do not want to miss a thing. This is one of the cases where I wholeheartedly endorse the author reading the material. Nobody else could have given the enthusiastic and energetic read. It felt like we were old friends chatting and catching up on old times. Heck, I feel like we are pals after spending 11 and a half hours with him. Count me in for the next reunion! LOL
This is a must listen/read for any Rocky fan. You will feel that love and energy all over again. This is at times hilarious and pinpoint. To think these kids were only 16ish and the lessons they taught each other. The understudies section was particularly wonderful. To be in that position and step down, even for one night a month, is huge!
While I adored the audio, I am afraid I missed out on things that would be in the print. I am going to scope out the ebook and see if there are photos, I need faces to go with these stories. I would recommend getting both, because this really was a delightful listen! (rockyconfessions(dot)com> get your extras fix at the website!)

The authors do a stellar job of narrating. Engaging and energetic. The very beginning might be a little too energetic but if that bothers you, don't give up. It settles a bit while retaining a unique intensity. Occasional sound affects and wonderful accents and intonations add to the fun. Because the narrator is the author and knows the story he's telling, he makes powerful use of dramatic and comedic pauses as well as showy flourishes.
There are so many fun anecdotes and vivid characters. You'll laugh. It's fun for anyone who was involved in the cult of the midnight shows - whether you went to it once, went to it a dozen times, were in a shadow cast yourself or knew people that were. Even if you don't know a thing about it, this really brings the time to life and explains a lot about who was doing this and why. It also doesn't explain that at all, and this is key. South Florida in the 80s tells a story of its own, too. A good story.
So damn good......
The friendships, the spiders, and the time period.
Nailed it. You can tell he enjoys what he does.
Buy it..you won't be sorry!
Funny, funny sh*t.
Do *you* know what to do if caught by the cops while trespassing with ladies lingerie in your pockets? Listen to find out!
Theis' enjoyment of the story he tells is infectious.
Laughed out loud - in public! (May have peed a little.)
It ain't War and Peace - thank goodness, because who has the time to listen to War and Peace?! No, this book is a good story well told. Lotsa laughs, a few feels - totally worth it.
If you didn't live through of participate in RHPS this book may be quite confusing. For those of us who did and RHPS was a part of your growing up this is s great walk down memory lane. Kevin's story is very similar to a lot of us who now introduce RHPS to our children. I enjoyed it. Great story
