Publisher's summary

Che Guevara was a dashing rebel whose epic dream was to end poverty and injustice in Latin America and the developing world through armed revolution.

Jon Lee Anderson traces Che's extraordinary life from his comfortable Argentine upbringing to the battlefields of the Cuban revolution, from the halls of power in Castro's government to his failed campaign in the Congo and his assassination in the Bolivian jungle.

Meticulously researched and full of exclusive information, this work illuminates as never before the mythic figure who embodied the high-water mark of revolutionary communism as a force in history.

Elaborate view of Che’s revolutionary life

This book provides a very detailed and elaborate view on Che’s life, probably the most detailed one that is ever written about Che. Might not be as interesting for someone who is looking to get just the highlights or summary of his life as this book goes very deep and is quite a lengthy read. I grew up in Kerala, India where we have a communist party and Che’s picture was quite familiar to me, so I was curious to go into his life and the character lives upto his name, legendary.

Riveting, insightful; a truly great biography

I couldn't put it down. This is a balanced, wonderfully written biography that sheds much light on the enigmatic and committed revolutionary. Also helped me understand the the context of the revolutionary struggles against US imperialism in central and south America.

Great life story but brace yourself - 36 h long!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Che Guevara?

Certainly important shaping moments happened during young Chancho's (Che's nickname) trip with his friend on motorcycle through countries of South America, before he became Revolutionary guerilla.

What does Armando Durán bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked how Armando used original accent for names, cities, etc and it really made story more authentic.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book can change the way how you look on effects of US capitalism on South American countries.

Good thorough biography

Excellent job with the Spanish names and places.

Good biography of Che. Answered a lot of questions for me regarding his non-fading appeal decades after his death. This book shows Che for who and what he was. It holds no punches.

I think college kids need to find a better hero though.

Great biography!

I've always wanted to know more about Che, it's so hard to find good information about him that isn't biased in some way. I thought this book did a good job giving a very thorough examination of his very human life, both the good and the bad.

Insightful

This biography provides enlightening details of Che’s ideological evolution. It also contextualizes the struggle between governments promoting capitalism and communism as well as the ideological schisms between communist governments. The reader’s voice and enunciation makes this long story enjoyable.
