Publisher's Summary

Frank W. Abagnale, alias Frank Williams, Robert Conrad, Frank Adams, and Robert Monjo, was one of the most daring conmen, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot's uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a college sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks, all before he was 21. Known by the police of 26 foreign countries and all 50 states as "The Skywayman," Abagnale lived a sumptuous life on the lam - until the law caught up with him. Now recognized as the nation's leading authority on financial foul play, Abagnale is a charming rogue whose hilarious, stranger-than-fiction international escapades and ingenious escapes - including one from an airplane - make Catch Me If You Can an irresistible tale of deceit. It's also a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

    "Really entertaining!"

This is very entertaining title and Barry Whitener does an incredible job narrating. Barry does the voices and acting so well you forget there's only one person performing.

    "Veryy entertaining but Cut Short"

I enjoyed this book immensly. Mr. Abignale Weaves a wonderful story that traces his life as a brilliant "paper hanger." I learned some things I never knew. His ability to create relationships and trust is truly amazing. He has a very keen mind and it was a pleasure to watch it work. The only problem I had with the book was a premature ending. I was left hanging.

"Great Story - Who Stole The Ending?"

Catch Me If You Can, made into a movie a few years ago with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, was my first introduction to the story of Frank Abagnale, Jr. This is "truth is stranger than fiction" at its finest and one of my most enjoyable listens from audible. My only problem with it is the ending. Spoilled by the movie, which details his time with the FBI and then, in the ending credits, talks about his subsequent consulting work helping combat check fraud for banks and businesses, the audio book doesn't get into any of that, but ends very abruptly - like many of Abagnale's alter-ego lives. Still very enjoyable and highly recommended with very good narration.

    "Way to go, Kid?"

Breezy, fascinating story of an amoral teenager duping the adult world and enjoying *almost* every moment of it. (The French prison portion is harrowing.) No surprise: better than the movie. Reader is excellent. Well worth it.

    "Catch Me If You Can"

This book does a great job telling the story of how this young con man swindled millions of dollars from hotels and banks during a multi-year escapade through the US and Europe. After reading about Abagnale's prison life in France, that's one country where you should not break the law.

    "Fun but a little dated"

I enjoyed the stories of Abagnale's exploits and learned much about the formerly lax security in the airline, banking and medical industries. My only difficulty was the dated language. It was clear the book was written primarily in the '70s, with its references to "chicks" and "swinging parties". If you can get past that, it's a terrific story.

    "Great complement to the Film"

Of course, the successful film brought this book (20+ years old) back into print and its a good complement to the film as it is far different, with more detail into exactly HOW Frank got away with matters and far less on the FBI "Javert" who pursued him. Still, we all paid for what Frank did, in terms of higher prices, Frank relied on the willingness to be kind of total strangers so his 6 months of cruel treatment in France didn't concern me too much. Still excellent and highly recommended.

    "Amazing true story"

I thoroughly enjoyed the telling of this sport span of white collar crime in a person so young. It is truly unbelievable that a mere teenager could have pulled off so much and fooled so many. The narrator kept my attention throughout. Although I had already viewed the film, I found the book so much more entertaining. If you saw the movie and liked it, I recommend that you follow up your experience with this book.

    "Absolutely Fascinating"

What a brilliant con artist, and to be so young....one with a (sort of) conscience. Held my attention all the way thru. Good reader Barrett Whitener. Has a pleasing voice, easy to listen too. Recommend to anyone interested in the workings of the con artist's mind.

"Addictively Easy to Listen To This Story"

Light, entertaining, amazing. Frank Abagnale, Jr.'s short life of crime pulls you in almost immediately and you keep listening to discover just what he has up his sleeve next. I was surprised to hear myself secretly cheering on his masterminds and cons. What an enlightening book to listen to over the holidays.

    "Definitely recommended!"

loved it! So interesting and captured my interest right from the start. I saw the film 'Catch Me If You Can' and downloaded the audiobook to hear a more accurate account of Frank Abagnale's life. I was so surprised to learn that he was as bold and intelligent, if not more so, than he was depicted in the movie! I enjoyed the audiobook no end. I've listened to it a few times and I'm still amazed by the ingenuity and inventiveness of Frank and his brazen frauds. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

    "Funny and engaging"

I did enjoy this book. It is written in such an engaging way, very light hearted and humorous for the most part, and it is difficult not to side with Frank villain and conman though he is. How true to life it really is.. your guess is as good as mine but it makes for a terrific story. A tad repetitive at times, but the book doesn't drag. Narration is top class and adds a lot to the book.

Worth a listen if you're looking for something different from a run of the mill thriller, for example.

    "Absolutely gripping"
Would you consider the audio edition of Catch Me If You Can to be better than the print version?

I listen to a lot of books whilst I'm travelling so haven't read the print version. I don't have time to sit down with a book so audible are absolutely ideal.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously Frank Abignale is the main character. His intelligence is very well conveyed and you can almost put yourself in his place.

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He is a good narrator and makes the character really come to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I didn't want to get out of my car mid book!

    Story
"Captivating - his audacity is astounding"

Abagnale glibly tells a story of an ingenious criminal lifestyle. He expresses guilt a few times over something that he did, but it's always some off-the-wall little thing that pales in comparison to the jobs and lives of the people that his behavior likely wrecked.

It's a grabber. From the start, I was so engrossed. How much of it is Abagnale's own words and how much is Redding's work I have no clue. Whoever is responsible for the bulk of the writing did a top notch job.

It's not often I read a book that holds my attention like this one does. The sheer imagination and audacity it took to pull off Abagnale's capers is something to marvel at, however unacceptable his activities might have been.

He gets his. You'll know what I mean when you reach that point in the story.

Get this, its well worth your time.

    Story
    "A REALLY ENJOYABLE BOOK."
Would you listen to Catch Me If You Can again? Why?

YES!! I FOUND THIS BOOK IN PARTS VERY FUNNY,EVEN THOUGH WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG.
IT WAS AMAZING HOW HE GOT AWAY WITH EVERYTHING, AND AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. IT MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD SO MANY TIMES.
THERE WERE ALSO SOME VERY GRIM PARTS AS WHEN HE WAS IN A FRENCH PRISON,AND THE BARBARIC CONDITIONS,AND TREATMENT UNDER WHICH HE WAS KEPT.
WHEN HE WAS THEN HANDED OVER TO THE DUTCH AUTHORITIES WHERE HE WAS ALSO WANTED,HIS TREATMENT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER. HE COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW DIFFERENT, AND SO MUCH BETTER THINGS WERE. AS HE WAS WANTED BY SO MANY OTHER PLACES WHERE HE HAD FORGED CHEQUES ETC, IT MEANT THAT AS HE WAS RELEASED FROM ONE PRISON,OTHER COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD WERE WAITING TO ARREST HIM.
I AM NOT A VERY GOOD REVIEWER, AS I FIND WRITING DIFFICULT DUE TO SIGHT PROBLEMS.
I DON'T WANT TO SAY MUCH MORE AS I FEEL IT MAY SPOIL YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THIS BOOK. IT IS WELL WORTH A LISTEN, AND I WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO SEE THE FILM OF THIS STORY.
THE NARRATOR BARRETT WHITENER, WAS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION EXCELLENT.
    A
THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE BOOK,WHICH I THINK IS REALLY WORTH A LISTEN.
I SHALL LOOK OUT FOR MORE OF THIS TYPE OF BOOK. I WILL ALSO LISTEN TO IT AGAIN AFTER A BREAK OF A COUPLE OF MONTHS.

What other book might you compare Catch Me If You Can to, and why?

I'M AFRAID I CAN NOT COMPARE THIS BOOK TO OTHERS,AS ITS THE FIRST ONE I HAVE LISTENED TO OF THIS GENRE.

What does Barrett Whitener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS AS AN AUDIO BOOK, AS I'M UNABLE TO READ ANYMORE.
AS I HAVE SAID ABOVE BARRETT WHITENER WAS AN EXCELLENT NARRATOR.
HIS DIFFERENT ACCENTS,MADE YOU FEEL THAT YOU WERE ACTUALLY THERE WITH FRANK ABAGNALE WHEREVER,OR WHATEVER HE WAS DOING.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

NOT SURE WHAT I COULD SAY, I UNDERSTAND THAT A FILM HAS BEEN MADE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ITS CALLED, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT.

    Any additional comments?

I WOULD JUST SAY IF YOU ENJOY THIS TYPE OF GENRE,WHICH IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH IN MANY PARTS. ITS ALSO A LITTLE GRIM THAT SUCH A YOUNG MAN GOT AWAY WITH ALL HE DID FOR SO LONG. I THINK THIS IS DUE TO JUST HOW OBSERVANT, AND CLEVER HE WAS AT FOOLING SO MANY WHO SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER.
    A MUST READ BOOK.

If I hadn't seen the film I would have never have believed even half these stories were true. What made this book even even more enjoyable was that is was very different that the film and gave context and understanding to a plethora of additional scams that Frank undertook.

"A superb tale, whether true or not!"

It is a special book that keeps you riveted and you genuinely cannot put down (figuratively speaking), this is definitely one of those for me!

Having seen the film, thought this might prove to cast a more realistic, more grown up and less glamorous version of events - certainly it probably achieved all three, however, provided a deeper insight and no less fantastical storyline than the film. Had me constantly questioning whether I was reading a book supposedly based on fact or total fiction, regardless of its truth or otherwise, an amazing story.
