Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Solo Narration - Female, 2013

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history. Beautifully written and utterly moving, Call the Midwife will touch the hearts of anyone who is, and everyone who has, a mother.

Extraordinary memoir

Tremendous story with much applicability to today as America approaches a national health plan and wrestles still with poverty. Beautifully performed, too!

Extraordinary

A story, beautifully written and told. It is rare to find a book so free of predictability. Each chapter is like a flower, opening day by day in springtime.

Wonderful memoir - fantastic narrator

This book is so much more than a story of the life of a midwife - it is a recollection of a life in a different time in history. Very well written. The narrator is hands down one of the best narrators I have ever listed to. Definitely worth 5 stars all the way around.

Fascinating Story!

I really enjoyed this book! It was fascinating to read about a part of history I knew nothing about. I loved the way the author told her story...it kept me captivated and interested the whole time. The only thing I didn't like was the "too much information" in the chapter on prostitutes...but other than that, I loved the book!

Call the midwife

I have watched the show before I listened to this book. I love, love, love the show! And now, listening to the book, I love it even more!
So good! So very good. I was a Labor and Delivery nurse for 20 years. All info was correct and accurate pertaining to pregnancy, birth and delivery. The narration was perfect! The stories of the women and what they go through are at once both heartbreaking and joyful. And inspirational! I highly recommend this wonderful audiobook! Enjoy!
