Publisher's summary

Spirited and whip-smart, these laugh-out-loud autobiographical essays are "a masterpiece" from the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedy writer known for 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL". (Sunday Telegraph).

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

Smart, Funny & Kind

I only have a passing knowledge of Tina Fey: I'm an occasional SNL watcher and I've never seen 30 Rock, but don't let that deter you from reading this book. Funny is funny, and I loved every minute of it! Granted, I am the perfect bullseye for her subject matter: from my happy, obedient, middle class upbringing to the joys and absurdities of the work/family balance. Her self deprecating humor really struck a chord with me!

Tina Fey: awesomewittyfunnyfeminist

Bossypants was a pleasure to read. Why?
1. I can now articulate to my boyfriend why it's arrogant to say that men are funnier than women, instead of just staring in shock and walking away.
2. The next time I get into lengthy conversations about beauty secrets, i will yell "who cares!?" And I will mean it!
3. I laughed a whole lot :)

Three words: Daring, Bold and Sexy

This book was perfect for my road-trip! I don’t wanna spoil the book, but I LOVE what she said about breast feeding and family trips. Relatable😂! This book transported me into her world. I felt like Tina Fey! I must admit, I only started this book because I thought it was about Tina Turner, but I stayed for the Fey! Absolutely loved it. Only note I have, it went on for longer than I thought. Everytime I looked down at my phone it said 2 hours left. How can it be 2 hours left for 5 hours🙈?! Not complaining though, I really enjoyed her performance and I have been referencing this book ALL WEEKEND! This is a boss ass book for boss ass women! Love it keep us the good work Tina!
Sincerely, Jennifer

Wonderfully written and spoken by Tina Fey!

Better than the book because it is her speaking. It made my laugh so much.

Brilliance yet again

Tina Fey is arguably one of the best comics of her generation & this book doesn't disappoint. There is nothing better than an intelligent sense of humor. It is laugh out loud funny perfection. Another morsel solidifying the fact that I want to be Tina Fey when I grow up. Love her!

Funny book about woman-parts (apologies to men)

What made the experience of listening to Bossypants the most enjoyable?

The performance; Tina Fey

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bossypants?

Chapter on her father, Don Fey.

Have you listened to any of Tina Fey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

Who's this for? Women. Who like SNL, including the raunchy second-half skits.

And men.

I was caught off guard during the first chapter, where Tina Fey gave a biographical sketch of her coming of age. She described in hilariously vulgar detail experiences which, as a man, I didn't experience. But while her experiences on motherhood, or being a young girl, or doing professional improv with Second City don't are far removed from my daily experience, she is so funny and insightful, that it was a delight.

The book slumps a bit in some places.

I really enjoyed it. Though it's a wonder I didn't kill myself, when I started laughing so hard I almost started crying listening on my daily commute.

Hilarious

If you could sum up Bossypants in three words, what would they be?

Listening to Tina Fey reading her own words had me laughing out loud while I walked listening to my Ipod. I must have looked like a lunatic!
