Publisher's summary

Spirited and whip-smart, these laugh-out-loud autobiographical essays are "a masterpiece" from the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedy writer known for 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL". (Sunday Telegraph).

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

Wonderful

I have always loved Tina Fay. From movies to Saturday Night Live. She is always funny and fresh and on time with her humor. She is a wonderful actress and even a better comedian. I really enjoyed this book and it was so interesting hearing all about her life. What a wonderful warm, intelligent, and funny woman. Some of the things she comes out with made me laugh out loud. It was a pleasure reading this book and getting to know her a little bit better. Gives me all the more reason to love her. Thanks for sharing about your life with us. It is so nice to get to see the other side of people that you like and admire in life.

Laughs appreciated

So this is the third time that I have listened to this audiobook. I hand pulled it out throughout the years during those times when I just really needed a laugh and it has yet to disappoint.

get to know tina Fey

now I feel like I've been having cocktails every Friday night with Tina as she drinks a Cosmo and I choose a beer, because crystal moth is bad. yes, we've been friends for yyyeeeeaarsss (think New York accent), I'd say.

new found adoration for Tina's humor.

new found Respect (capital R) for how hard she works, which makes her surprisongly very relatable, even though I'm a single mom of 3 kids who probably earns less than her chief of toddlery.

thank you for doing this tina.

loved the crazy because no one wants to f**k them anymore more. you arent off base there. (Sounded like you needed a little affirmation on that one.) same goes for ex-boyfriends when you dont want to f*,k THEM anymore. . yeah, she turned out to be crazy, they say.

sorry about the 4 stars. realized after reading eleanor oliphant last week that I need to be very stingy with 5 stars, saving 5s for books like that.

$hit (do I need to use symbols or would audible publish my rating with a swear word?) should have read your book before eleanor. youd have been rated 5...

take care. thank you for paving a way for women. even though I'm "all the way over here in Finance. but I'll still reap the benefits of your long hours & efforts as women entertain me over the coming years.

thank you.

hope you have hired someone to read these. weed out the crappy reviews. and just enjoy a filtered confidence-building version of what people say. am for hire should you need those services.

(think small disclaimer voice you do) I also will hit you up o hire me to do the credits on your next book.

I have beautiful voice.

once again, thank you. for being you.

p.s. I am also 5'4"

Great listen

The story is great! I love that Tina read it, however, it was a little difficult to hear her at times when she would have side notes at the end of sentences. They are worth deciphering though.

it's a great real story the voice acting sounds like a conversation and not a person talking into the wind

Amusing anecdotes galore

Tina Fey follows a chronological storyline. She has been witness to the rise of women in both politics and comedy, which does not go unremarked in her book.

The funniest part and the part I most related to was when she compared her “bossypants” management style to whatever style Lorne Michaels has.

She also called herself “obedient and competitive” which come through in her stories. It made me think that, for an improv person to rise the levels Tina Fey has, these traits are not her weaknesses but her moneymakers. Way to turn your life to art!

Enjoyed the ride on audiobook

A relatable triumph

I thoroughly enjoyed skipping down memory lane with Tina. Although this book was published some time ago, the stories were timeless and I could identify with her on many levels. Plus she is a brilliant writer, and hilarious!
