Publisher's summary

Spirited and whip-smart, these laugh-out-loud autobiographical essays are "a masterpiece" from the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedy writer known for 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL". (Sunday Telegraph).

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

What did you love best about Bossypants?

I listen to audiobooks at work, and this one really made the day fly by. If you don't work in an office, I will explain that this is a very good thing and something that you always wish would happen.

Have you listened to any of Tina Fey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

When I listened to Bossypants, it felt more like being told a story than it did being read a book. You know what I mean? Tina's delivery is fun, warm, conversational, and lovely to listen to. She's a great writer and I loved every part of it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really enjoyed the bits about female empowerment. I also greatly enjoyed her recount of the day that made her quit the crappy job she had. I totally relate.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to anyone who is currently breathing (sorry, non-breathers).
Also, if you've already listened to this book and aren't sure what to do next, try leaving it on for your pet when you leave the house. It will teach them to be better improvisers on stage, and maybe get a call back from Lorne Michaels.

I finally understand the hype over audiobooks

Where does Bossypants rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was the second audiobook I've listened to, and I really think the key is listening to an audiobook recorded by the author him/herself. The first audiobook I've listened to was "My Beloved World" by Justice Sotomayor and it was definitely a captivating story. However, Bossypants really turned up the entertainment factor for me and I now look forward to my walk to work.

Any additional comments?

I am still a fan of physical books and reading, but perhaps no one can really deliver the story of a memoir as well the author him/herself.

Tina Fey is Brilliant!

I bow down to Tina Fey. I so love how she makes no apologies for being a smart, outspoken, competitive woman! What a great role model!

The book is one of the best on audible. Her characterization of the various voices is fantastic...the very reason I love audible vs. reading. The story is fantastic as well. She addresses all the stuff we want to hear about. Fantastic book!

A real story teller

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, without hesitation. I would especially recommend it to my daughter and her friends as they finish school and begin their careers.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Bossypants?

When Ms. Fey through her talent and hard work convinced her Improv group into seeing their institutionalized prejudice about women in comedy.

What does Tina Fey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms. Fey's writing is matched by her story telling. Her voice is warm and welcoming; it was more like a conversation than a performance.

Great performance

What did you love best about Bossypants?

I loved listening to Tina Fey. I found myself laughing out loud a few times, but also just interested in her story - and I really didn't know that much about her before. I listened this while I cut out material for a quilt. Perfect entertainment. I highly recommend this book.

What does Tina Fey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Knowing it was being read with the emphasis and inflections where Tina Fey actually wanted them - better than reading it myself.

Great Job Tina

Would you listen to Bossypants again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to this audio again! I am not a SNL fan, so I was steering left when I purchased this book. I was certainly not disappointed. She is candid, personal, easy to identify with and seriously funny. Would definelty recommend to other women out there who could use a good break away from their own for a few hours.
