Publisher's summary

Spirited and whip-smart, these laugh-out-loud autobiographical essays are "a masterpiece" from the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedy writer known for 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and SNL". (Sunday Telegraph).

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Tina Fey wears the pants
"I still remember the first time I listened to Bossypants in 2011. I was a recent college grad and my tastes were embarrassingly snobby, but I liked Tina Fey and thought it would just be soooo subversive to listen to a best seller. Imagine my shock when Bossypants showed me how much pure, uncomplicated joy I could get from a book. I never looked back. Before Tina Fey we had Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, and Joan Rivers, but Bossypants came at just the right moment when the floodgates were opening for women in comedy. Its best seller status made Tina Fey a household name and paved the way for excellent (hilarious) memoirs that would follow by Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tiffany Haddish, Ali Wong, and so many more. Bossypants launched a cultural phenomenon. What I love best about Tina Fey’s book is her voice, both figuratively and literally. It's a joy to spend five and a half straight hours in her brain, hearing her perspective on comedy, career, and crushes gone awry. The audiobook's use of clips from Saturday Night Live was also revolutionary and elevated this memoir to a whole new level. No matter which comedy memoir I end up falling in love with next, Bossypants will always hold a special place in my heart as the first—and the decade’s best."—Rachel S., Audible Editor

Fun Read

Would you listen to Bossypants again? Why?

No, I don't normally read a book more than once.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tina as a young girl. She was very entertaining!

What does Tina Fey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The fact that Tina was the one who read the audio book added so much more. Her tone of voice and the funny little remarks made in the way on Tina Fey can; it made it more like listening to a comic routine. It was very entertaining, funny, and heart-felt.

Fey is great, knocked off some stars b/c editing

Tina Fey is witty and it's great to hear her voice doing the reading. The book is partly aimed at what it's like to be a woman working through a male dominated profession which was great to shed some light on. Overally a great story.

I had to knock a few stars off due to some production issues with this audiobook. There are several times when Fey whispers subtext to something she says and it's too soft. I know this is for effect but it's much too soft and I had to keep rewinding and pushing the volume way up since I listen over a car stereo and not earbuds.

The other editing problem that got past editors is when Fey does her reading she sometimes repeats what she says for a slightly different form of emphasis. This is common when doing any kind of spoken text but the editor is supposed to delete the extra phrases as she's saying the same thing. I believe I heard this happening at least three times during the audiobook.

One last minor thing about the editing is the pacing of the no-audio gaps between what Fey is reading. The audio system clamps down the audio gain which normally wouldn't be noticeable but the gaps are too long so it becomes very noticeable.

Seems like the production of this audiobook was rushed due to these production gaffes. But still a great listen.

Listen to it!

After listening to Bossypants, I went back to the book to check what I had suspected all through out listening to it.

Bossypants is read very well. It is engaging, funny, and exactly what we have come to expect from Tina Fey. But it is a book that is difficult to read. Ms. Fey breaks from traditional writing forms so frequently that it is distracting to the reader. This is why you have to listen to it.

As an audiobook, it is simply great. And I enjoyed every minute of listening to Ms. Fey's humor playing out in this format. If you are thinking about either getting the book or the audiobook, get the audiobook. You won't be disappointed.

More Bio than Comedy

I was expecting a comedy book written to make me laugh, but it wasn't really that kind of book. It was more memoir/autobiography so if that's what you're expecting you might like it more than I did.

Didn't know what to expect. Loved it.

Humorous and refreshing. Even if you're not familiar with most of Tina Fey's work she has written something very relatable. I love her down to earth, yet light hearted and spunky style!

Not AS funny for guys, but still great!

Don't get me wrong!!! I love Tina Fey and am completely happy with this purchase. Only she could deliver it and have it come off as funny as it was! The only problem that I had was that at times it was very clear that it was targeted at women and I felt like I was in a Victoria's Secret waiting for my wife to try something on....no matter how cool you try to play it, you still feel like a creep.
But, with all that said, I would still recommend this to others...ESPECIALLY women!

Hard to NOT Laugh Out Loud on the Train/Plane

I listened to this book when traveling abroad. It was seriously hard not to laugh out loud when listening to this book in public on the train or in a plane. Ok, I don't think I was always successful but the Japanese are so polite. I especially loved the telling of her family "Celebrating the birth of Christ",... "traveling arduously back to the place of your birth to be counted." I make the same I-80 trek across PA but in reveres for the holidays. I replayed that bit several times!

Tina's timing and style has always made me laugh. This book was no different. I enjoyed hearing the back story to the Sarah Palin skits on SNL. I hope Tina keeps doing political humor because it's funny not because it makes a political point.

I gifted this book to a friend and with the holidays coming I plan to gift a few more. Does it come in a less quality paperback (or mp3) version for acquaintances? Just kidding, Tina deserves full price.

Amazing

Funny, brilliant, heartfelt, smart, and uglybeautiful in the best way. Honest and descriptive about worries we all have as women, and about some we could only hope to have. Thank you, Tina!

So nice, I'd hear it twice...

Love this! Great listen for a long road trip. My husband and I reference jokes from this book all of the time, and he doesn't even like reading or audible books. Thank you, Tina! You're part of our inside dialogue now.

I got so enthusiastic after hearing this story that I purchased several similar books, and I was terribly disappointed. Tina Fey dominates this genre. And, she can chew an ENTIRE piece of gum.

Highly enjoyable

Humorous writing made even funnier by the writer's narration. Her reflections on her parents and childhood were relatable and hysterical. I was disappointed it had to end.
