Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update", before "Sarah Palin", Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.
She has seen both of those dreams come true.
At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.
Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.
Includes special, never-before-solicited opinions on breastfeeding, princesses, Photoshop, the electoral process, and Italian rum cake!

"I hope that's not really the cover. That's really going to hurt sales." (Don Fey, Father of Tina Fey)
"Do not print this glowing recommendation of Tina Fey's book until I've been dead a hundred years." (Mark Twain)
"Hilarious and insightful. Laugh-out-loud funny - oh no, a full moon. No! Arrgh! Get away from me! Save yourself!" (A Guy Turning into a Werewolf)
Don't know - I haven't ready the print version.
The section regarding "Growing Up and Liking It."
Much of it made me laugh. Other parts of it were somewhat strange.
The section regarding Tina's honeymoon is also hilarious.
Cool book, got me through a few commutes home. Good times. Good job on the book Fey.
Loved how hilarious she is in general, the personal stories were insightful and (what else?) hilarious and endearing. The PDF with pics is awesome. Not so in love with her ode to her teenage relationship with gays, seems kinda irrelevant but its her story so what can you do? She's a smart politically savvy workaholic. Love her work and now I love her!!
I really loved how she described Don Fey.
Tina Fey was a great reader, she jokes with you as she's going along. I'm a fan of 30 Rock and Tina's writing so I was excited to listen to this book. I would recommend this book to others.
I loved Tina Fey telling her own story. I remember thinking it strange to read a story about Tina Fey actually not wanting to continue appearing as Sarah Palin. It was such a great hit for her. Listening to her experience, however, made me see that she made perfect sense.
Sonic Death Monkey
This book is just what you'd expect from Tina Fey. Smart. Funny. Real. Insightful. Funny. (It's double funny). Even stuffed into a sweaty summertime subway, I laughed out loud.
I am a mother of three who enjoys reading and knitting. When I found out about audible I cried I was so happy... FINALLY I could have both my loves together in one perfect comfy quiet mommy hour! ( Well maybe not cried, but I was pretty pumped)
Funny Interesting Perfect
The fact that she narrated her own book, I don't think anyone else reading it would of done the book justice.
Listening to Tina Fey describe working at the YMCA! I laughed so hard, as a x Y employee I could relate!
YES! This book was hilarious! I listened to it with my wife, and we laughed so hard through so much of the book that I am sure we missed more quips and episodes to chuckle about. The tone of the book, the level of intimacy divulged, and the fact that Tina narrates the book makes you feel like you just got finished hanging out with "Teeners," as my wife and I nicknamed her; sorry, Tina. Also, if you are an SNL and/or a 30 Rock fan, this book paints such an amazing behind the scenes look at what it is like to be on the inside of one of these renowned NBC "bubbles." What is even better is that this book goes beyond showbiz, and paints a real image of Tina the person, which is even funnier.
My favorite scene is when Tina talks about her Dad, Don Faye. He reminded me a lot of my Dad, and her description of this "man's man" was so vivid I felt like I could recognize him in crowd even though I have never laid eyes on him. Plus, every story involving him is hilarious. He is the exact opposite of what I thought Tina's Dad would be like.
This book proves that Tina Fey is just as weird as her work with SNL and 30 Rock always lead you to believe; the stories are told with her trademark dead pan and totally ridiculous style and it's absolutely hilarious. Clearly you'd have to be a fan of her oddball style of humor to enjoy it, but if you do I feel like Bossypants is a great choice for a download.
I'm also glad I chose to purchase the audio book as opposed to just the book itself; Tina lending her inflections to the stories make them so much better and really clarify the tone she's going for. It was also really interesting to hear her occasional commentary on and experience with being a woman in comedy and in business in general; she's a straight-forward and basic lady, and it's great.
The only downside to the audio book is what others have mentioned - her occasional asides are often too quiet or fast to hear, even when I'm listening with headphones. A little more consistency would have been nice to eek out every ounce of comedy.
I personally have not read the print edition; this was certainly one area that detracted for me because Fey mentions referencing the .pdf to get the gist. For me this was impossible, I listened to this while commuting and there was no way that I could access a .pdf while in transit.
There were certainly moments of out loud laughter, and I didn't even mind the strange looks people were giving me while sitting at a light or in the long line of traffic.
Fey did a great job taking some of the most obnoxious and hurtful things people could say as criticism and turns it into a fantastic little bit that shines a new laughable light on them. Overall, it was a good light listen for the commuting which can be a nightmare at times.
