Jennifer Saunders' comic creations have brought joy to millions. From Comic Strip to Comic Relief, from Bolly-swilling Edina in Ab Fab to her takes on Madonna or Mamma Mia, her characters are household names. But it's Jennifer herself who has a place in all our hearts. This is her funny, moving, and frankly bonkers memoir, filled with laughter, friends, and occasional heartache - but never misery.
Bonkers is full of riotous adventures: accidentally enrolling on a teacher training course with a young Dawn French, bluffing her way to each BBC series, shooting Lulu, trading wild faxes with Joanna Lumley, touring India with Ruby Wax and Goldie Hawn. There's cancer, too, when she becomes 'Brave Jen'. But her biggest battle is with the bane of her life: the Laws of Procrastination. As she admits, "There has never been a Plan. Everything has been fairly random, happened by accident or just fallen into place. I'm off now, to do some sweeping..." Prepare to chuckle, whoop, and go bonkers.

"Not a laugh out loud kind of experience.."
No hard feelings to Jennifer but I felt the narration slightly flat..... I suppose my expectations were of ab fab kind of "bonkers" narration but it's not, sorry jen. The delivery was stilted in the beginning and as time went on I got used to it, or was it that the delivery got better, I'm not entirely sure?
It wasn't filled with enough laughs for me, I like a more "Stephen Fry" kind of delivery when listening to an autobiography
stilted, unsure, trying
A most engaging narration by the author, funny, interesting and human.
I got through this book very quickly whilst decorating the bathroom and it made the task much more bearable. Highly recommended.
"Crazy lady but oh so likeable!"
Jennifer Saunders reading it herself. She did a great job. Laughed out loud a lot.
It was so ordinary and believable the home life Jennifer led with all her family. Her relationship with her husband was lovely. He's an amazing character too. Obviously well suited.
She was just herself.
No. I wanted to make it last so I took my time getting through it. It was like a tonic.
"Had me snorting over my breakfast day after day"
This is an absolute must for anyone who loved French and Saunders and 'Ab Fab'. This is one of those books that needs to be listened to rather than read. Jennifer Saunders, in her narration of her own words, is hugely funny and at times poignant. Her funny stories had me snorting over my breakfast and on the tube. This book was a real tonic for anyone who needs a pick me up. Thank you Jennifer Saunders.
Entertaining Touching Funny
The retelling by the author
Too many too comment on
"Listenable.... but not what I hoped for!"
It is definitely worth a listen, it may be that Jennifers voice is so familiar to us that it simply makes for 'easy listening'.... it has its moments of comedy and sadness, but no mind blowing celebrity secrets here I'm afraid!
Obviously you can't change the story, its an account of Jennifer's life, however I did feel she was on the fence a lot of the time.... I do like to hear peoples real views on other public figure and incidents. However, Jennifer's choice not to write a headline grabbing, celeb slandering autobiography is refreshing!
Don't be daft, its her autobiography.
There are no characters, this format really doesn't suit an autobiography does it?
Its just boring, not funny, not interesting. Gave up after a few chapters.
This is a really enjoyable audiobook. I felt like we were having a one sided conversation on the phone, and that she was an old chum. It's laugh out loud funny. She is so down to earth and honest. I loved when she talked about her mum being ill but the pair of them couldn't stop laughing that was just the relationship I had with my mum. It really hit home for me. I think she is wonderful. You should definitely give this a try, I think it's a great listen.q
Jen does a fantastic impression of Joanna Lumley which has to be heard to be believed.
She also does quite a good Dawn French, unsurprisingly.
I laughed out loud at the funnies but was also shocked about the illness she had gone through and her very straightforward attitude about it - which was really inspiring.
You are ace Jen! So pleased you are well and still here making me/us all laugh. X
Very funny, and read the way the author wrote it, which is interesting in itself. Really love the way she handles some of the sadder parts of her life, but very funny generally. Love the writing procrastination especially. Have listened to it twice already!
Dear Fatty by Dawn French is the obvious choice, but this is very different and fresh in its own way.
Herself-Jennifer Saunders. Although some of the impressions of her agent and famous friends seem to be spot on, really well done.
Yes, never boring.
Buy it you won't regret it.
SHARP, FUNNY, REAL
Belly laughs at times. Humour I just love, brings back lots of fab memories. Please do not listen while driving or operating dangerous machinery, too damned funny to make that safe!
Far outreached my expectations, no real idea as I haven't read the book itself, but having Jennifer read it in her own inimitable style greatly enhanced the laugh factor I reckon, and that, let's face it, is what it's about.
