Publisher's summary

After nearly a decade in the minors, Dirk Hayhurst defied the odds to climb onto the pitcher's mound for the Toronto Blue Jays. Newly married, with a big league paycheck and a brand new house, Hayhurst was ready for a great season in the Bigs.

Then fate delivered a crushing hit. Hayhurst blew out his pitching shoulder in an insane off-season workout program. After surgery, rehab, and more rehab, his major-league dreams seemed more distant than ever.

From there things got worse, weirder, and funnier. In a crazy world of injured athletes, autograph-seeking nuns, angry wrestlers, and trainers with a taste for torture, Hayhurst learned lessons about the game—and himself—that were not in any rulebook. Honest, soul-searching, insightful, hilarious, and moving, Dirk Hayhurst's latest memoir is an indisputable baseball classic.

Great book, okay narrator

the book is a good sequel to the awesome Bullpen Gospels. Problem, Bullpen Gospels was narrated by Ray Porter who sounds like an everyday guy, a baseball player. Stephen Hoye while have good production value sounds more like the owner of a baseball team, not a player. it probably wouldn't have been to bad if I hadn't gone in with as high expectations left from Ray Porter. that sad Hoye wasn't horrible, just not as good for this particular book as Porter.

Otherwise, this book was really good.

Very enjoyable

I appreciate and enjoy Dirk Hayhursts writing style. It's easy to listen to and understand, plus as a guy who grew up playing baseball, I enjoy the stories he writes about. I recommend listening to or reading both his books, especially if you're a baseball fan. I look forward to more writing from Dirk.
