Audie Award Finalist, Non-Fiction, 2014

Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, was raised as a Scientologist but left the controversial religion in 2005. In Beyond Belief, she shares her true story of life inside the upper ranks of the sect, details her experiences as a member Sea Org - the church's highest ministry - speaks of her "disconnection" from family outside of the organization, and tells the story of her ultimate escape.

In this tell-all memoir, Jenna Miscavige Hill, a prominent critic of Scientology who now helps others leave the organization, offers an insider's profile of the beliefs, rituals, and secrets of the religion that has captured the fascination of millions, including some of Hollywood's brightest stars such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

amazing and heartbreaking

this is one of the better books regarding those who have escaped Scientology that I have read. my only suggestion would be the narrator speak just a little slower.

Fascinating

I listened to this after listening to Leah Remini's troublemaker. This is an even more in depth story of the cult culture of Scientology. The story of what Jenna Hill endured as a child is sad but her courage and insight is inspirational. I really enjoyed listening to this book. The reader is also good & makes listening easy & enjoyable. I would definitely recommend.

Great Story

This was by far one of the best books I've read about Scientology. Hopefully with all the information there is out there, authorities wiill soon dismantle this cult.

Cult

Excellent. Riveting. Infuriating. Both I and wife grew up in another cult religion from which we broke free. It has both empowered us and embittered us to all cults and sadly to say all or most religions who also share mind control techniques. Scientology is obviously a group of psychopathic individuals who function much like Adolf Hitler in their ability to control and dominate. I applaud Ms. Hill for her tenacity and bravery in sharing her disturbing story. An excellent read.

If you've ever wondered about Scientology

What made the experience of listening to Beyond Belief the most enjoyable?

The first person narrative of someone growing up in the church was captivating. I wanted to see how and why she decided to leave what she was raised to believe in.

Any additional comments?

This completely answers the question about whether it's a cult. All the signs are there. Of course, that also makes it difficult to distinguish from any other religion! Enlightening description of her experiences and what makes someone begin to question the things they've been told all their lives.

Powerful, moving and uplifting. Absolutely excellent.

Very well written and beautifully read, this story moved me to tears time and again. The author takes us from her childhood as a captive of Scientology through her adolescence as a believer to her eventual escape as an adult. She is now free. Wow.

Fascinating and Scary

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

How on earth Scientology can be a religion is literally Beyond Belief. This is basically a prison for children. I'm so glad Jenna was able to escape this cult and live a normal life!

Captivating

Narrator was exquisite in being able to directly project the emotions and intentions of Jenna from every age.
Story had me sucked in. I love hearing tales of people escaping hell on Earth. I've heard escapes from Nazi camps and NK. But this was far more relatable. You get sucked in as if you're in Jenna's place. Really well-edited.
