Story
Monty Roberts' father, a traditional horse trainer, had taught his son to dominate a horse in order to "break" it. But when he was 13, Monty made a discovery that changed his life. As he watched a mare tame a rebellious colt, Monty saw that she was speaking to it through eye and body movements. Astonished, Monty realized that he could train horses by using their language, speaking to them in ways that would form trust and understanding. Developing techniques based on what he learned from the horses around him, Monty embarked on a remarkable career - one that would bring him international fame as the real Horse Whisperer.

Story
This is what happens when a writer, preacher, and lover of words encounters some of creation’s wisest theologians: horses. First, she argues with them. They are, after all, horses. What could they possibly know about life and God that theologians haven’t already written? But slowly, she engages their language and listens to their holy wisdom, attending to how they express their being, actions, and relationships. John has drawn from life experiences as diverse as martial arts and acting to develop the self-awareness and poise that make him the excellent educator he is for horses and riders today. He debunks myths that are still prevalent in horse training, like dominance strategies and coercive practices.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Story
Casey Halbach's life was perfectly on track. She had it all: good friends, a loving boyfriend, a decent job with her very own cubicle. Then, she met Sky. Riding instructor, barn manager, and whirlwind of energy, Sky effortlessly launches Casey back into the saddle. Friends are confused, the boyfriend is concerned, and Casey is conflicted - but when she decides to take the plunge and buy a horse of her own, she realizes that she was just dabbling in the shallow end before. Now, Casey's pretty sure she's in over her head, but the crazy thing is: She thinks she likes it this way.

Story
John Saint Ryan has travelled the world working with horses. John's behavior with all students, whether equine or human, is aligned with his principles, which is a rare practice, and he is also able to share his knowledge in an agile and even poetic way, with openness, humor, and grace. John has drawn from life experiences as diverse as martial arts and acting to develop the self-awareness and poise that make him the excellent educator he is for horses and riders today. He debunks myths that are still prevalent in horse training, like dominance strategies and coercive practices.

Story
In this illuminating book, brain scientist and horsewoman Janet Jones describes human and equine brains working together. Using plain language, she explores the differences and similarities between equine and human ways of negotiating the world. Mental abilities—like seeing, learning, fearing, trusting, and focusing—are discussed from both human and horse perspectives. Throughout, true stories of horses and handlers attempting to understand each other—sometimes successfully, sometimes not—help to illustrate the principles.

Horses have a story to tell - one of resilience, sociability, and intelligence and of partnership with human beings. In The Horse, journalist and equestrienne Wendy Williams brings that story brilliantly to life. Williams chronicles the 56-million-year journey of horses as she visits with experts around the world, exploring what our biological affinities and differences can tell us about the bond between horses and humans and what our longtime companions might think and feel.

Good read except for
Dislike the gals voice. Especially on the second to last narrative. Everything the Male voice read was excellent though. some of the other writers were a bit too hippy peace loving yuppies. overall good read. Recomend highly.

Not just for horse people
I’ll read anything Buck Brannaman writes -again and again. He is a special soul. And though I did learn of him because I’m a horse person/owner/rider, I highly recommend his books for anyone interested in growth, and looking for a deeper understanding of themselves and what animals (like the horse) can teach us.
The one downside- something about the woman narrator’s style is not my favorite (maybe too dramatic for me?)… but it didn’t detract from the material at all.

Love Buck!
It's just all common sense, why is it so hard for us to see.
I guess it takes a brilliant man to show us the way.
It's so hard for me to believe that someone can be so good, in his heart and at what he teaches.
I've met so few that are so pure inside and out .

Another fantastic "listen/read"!
Would you consider the audio edition of Believe to be better than the print version?
I listened to this after "Faraway Horses"...another Buck Brannaman book. I think I loved this one just as much...I had to listen to this one twice as well. I am definitely going to buy the print version to keep!
