Publisher's summary

He is the deadliest American sniper ever, called "the devil" by the enemies he hunted and "the legend" by his Navy SEAL brothers.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.

A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. After 9/11, he was thrust onto the front lines of the War on Terror, and soon found his calling as a world-class sniper who performed best under fire. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war - of twice being shot and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends.

American Sniper also honors Kyle's fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyle's wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris.

Adrenaline-charged and deeply personal, American Sniper is a thrilling eyewitness account of war that only one man could tell.

Awesome!

I am at awl with the sacrifices one has to make when on the front lines of our war on terror. This book is truly a refreshing look at the mind set of an American Warrior in combat, on the homefront and in life. The hardships on a family, both directly and indirectly, are exposed in this book and the decisions and strategies made to conquer them. I salute those families and warriors that make these sacrafices on a daily basis and continue to be the tip of the spear in this new type of war our country faces. Semper Fidelis.

Eye opening

Chris Kyle sounds like a man who knew himself well. I sure admire his sense of right and wrong, his courage, commitment, and faithfulness. I almost felt his pain at the loss of his brothers. I spent some quiet time reflecting on this one. So well told and narrated. Now I know a very sight bit of what war must be like. Now I have an even deeper respect for those who serve in the military.

American Sniper

This is the first book I've listened to instead of reading! It was a new and different experience, but I liked it. The book was ever bit as good as I expected. I think the most memorable part of the story is when Chris Kyle's sniper buddies got shot, killed and wounded! This was very hard for him and it would have been hard for me! I was uncomfortable with the language used in the book at times. I just don't like vulgarity and swearing; it may have been the way they really talked, but I wish they wouldn't use it in the text! It would have been just as effective without the f word and using sh--t so often!!! Great Story, Great American Hero, very good reader!

True American Hero

Every American should hear/read the story of this exceptional soldier to get the facts as to the frontline experience and how to deal with the "savages" and their evil rather than what is typically stated by the politicians and pundits in DC.

Wow. Just... wow.

On a certain level, I completely related to Chris' story; three tours in Iraq myself. However, his love for country, God, and family goes beyond anything I could ever imagine. Beautiful story, and very well preformed.

Blunt and Homest

First, I would like all of the men and women that have been, still in, or going to be in the military. This book is straightforward, heartfelt, and full of complete honesty. Hands down one of the Best books I’ve ever read.
