Herriot continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters - humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets - all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. And all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot: Christopher Timothy.

Everyone who loves animals should read or listen to James Harriet 's series of books.
Each chapter is like a story of its own. perfect to listen on your way home ft work
And who doesn't love to listen to a good Scottish accent?!
Reader & all-around literate person
Herriot's stories are wonderful classics, and Christopher Timothy is the perfect narrator for these splendid books. But the bizarre background voices sometimes made it seem like watching a theatre performance with people chatting in the row behind you.
Add to that the oddly random music occasionally pasted in at chapter transitions, and you have an excellent performance marred by bad production.
Great narrator, keeps you engaged the whole time and you will be rolling off your seats laughing sometimes and crying at others.
Good, bad, hilarious.
Just as good as All Creatures Great and Small.
Excellent narration, considering he played James in the TV series.
Brilliant writing, brilliant narration. This audio book is the perfect marriage of good writing and talented narration. I find myself wiping away tears, or bursting into laughter as I listen. What a beautiful combination is the loving writing of James Herriot and the skillful reading of Christopher Timothy! I wish I could visit Yorkshire, although now I feel as if I'm already there.
James Herriot is one of my favorite authors so the 3 star rating isn't at all because of the quality of the story itself. I also have this book on CD and the audible version has something seriously wrong with the audio. Christopher Timothy's voice is much too deep and slow, to the point that it makes it impossible to listen to this book. Such a shame because it is a wonderful story. Hopefully Audible will fix the sound quality...until then, don't get this one.
I love the James herriot series, but this one played at a slower speed during part of it. There was a serious error in the digitization process.
I like the book as a whole
I would cast no one other than Cristapher Timothy
The audio quality sparked disappointment, anger, and sadness in me
This book should be remastered
As a teen, I adored the print version, and read many times. 20 years later, I am so grateful to re-discover these old favorites on audio! The narrator really added to the feel of the stories, and I enjoyed his rendition of Herriot's escapades. I'm not sure I'd say that audio is better, but for someone who spends a lot of time in the car, this is one book definitely worth listening to. An extra bonus is the format (collection of stories) which makes it easy to find a place to stop and restart.
Others in this series. All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made them All.
As the actor who played James Herriot in the TV Series, he totally understands James's character and the personalities, accents and attitudes of the villagers whose animals he helps care for.
No, it was a leisurely stroll through rural England. It was like a friendly visit to a dear friend over a number of days. Pleasant each time I turned it on.
James Herriot may have been a good vet, but he is a rather skilled writer who catches the humor in any situation. In turns I would be laughing aloud, and then crying at the next story in line. (Not easy to explain to a mortified teen-ager that you are picking up in car-line at school!) I really enjoyed re-visiting these stories. If you are an animal lover (and have a strong stomach) who likes the technical aspect of caring for animals interwoven with stories of everyday life in rural England, you will enjoy this audio book!
I loved the TV show and the books. They are one of my most favourite series in TV and books.
I love the audiobooks because it brings back memories of the era and the people. Christopher brings the characters back to life and all the images flood back.
I have come to love audiobooks as much as I do books. It is to hard to choose for me. I love both.
Just the other books in the series compare to All Things Bright and Beautiful.
No this is the first time for audiobooks.
If you love animals and people you will enjoy this book. There is humour sorrow and history all rolled up in to one.
Jame Herriot is not only a great vet he is also a great writer who can make you laugh and cry.
