    "Perfect!"

I loved this book when I first read it many years ago. Great stories about animals and people and an older way of life. I loved the TV adaptation just as much and now I love the audiobook. The narrator is the actor who played the author in the TV version but in this audiobook he shows that he can handle all the different voices and accents wonderfully.

    "Fantastic"

If you love a well written, honest narrative you'll look forward to one of a pre-WWII vet in Yorkshire. He details the joys and sorrows of a country vet in a heart-warming way that will bring you to both laughter and tears.

The story is read fabulously--the crowning piece of this audiobook.

"I LOVE the James Herriot books.... BUT..."

I agree with other reviewers... the sound in this one is just not good. The music is inappropriate, often too loud and too much of it. The quality of sound overall is not as good as usual, so I can only hope that it all returns to "normal" with the next book. PLEASE

    "Classic stories by gifted writer"

I knew his work before listening to this but never realized how well written the stories were. Wonderful fun and so very real a picture of a country vet.

    "Lots of chuckles"

When listening carefully and attentively, you can learn a great deal. Character descriptions are picturesque and humorous. The mind's eye envisions the settings. Humor is the aim in most of the tellings. I grinned and laughed all through the presentation. I Looked forward to the next story and hated to be interrupted.

"one of favorite books for 40+ years."

I love his storytelling and how I can visualize his patients and their owners. I love his passion for the job and he has done a great job picturing the landscape of a country I have never seen.

    "Excellent!"

I absolutely love this book. The stories are heartwarming and the insights about veterinary practice in that era are interesting. If you like animals, I highly recommend this book! The narrator also does a lovely job with the accents and storytelling.

I first read these 35 years ago as a 13 year old. They were the first books I laughed and cried aloud while reading. Still just as good!

"Truly enjoyable from first to final chapter."

I feel as though I were there and the animals and people were part of my life too. And now that the narrative has ended I am reluctant to return to the modern world.
