Publisher's summary

From the world-famous survival expert, learn how to make every day an unforgettable adventure.

Life in the outdoors teaches us invaluable lessons. Encountering the wild forces us to plan and execute goals, face danger, push our "limits," and sharpen our instincts. But our most important adventures don't always happen in nature's extremes. Living a purpose-driven, meaningful life can often be an even greater challenge....

In A Survival Guide for Life, Bear Grylls, globally renowned adventurer and television host, shares the hard-earned wisdom he's gained in the harshest environments on earth, from the summit of Mt. Everest to the boot camps of the British Special Forces:

  • What are the most important skills to learn if you really want to achieve your maximum potential?
  • How do you keep going when all the odds are stacked against you?
  • How can you motivate a team to follow you in spite of apparent risks?

Filled with exclusive, never-before-told tales from Bear's globe-trekking expeditions, A Survival Guide for Life teaches every listener no matter your age or - experience - that we're all capable of living life more boldly, of achieving our most daring dreams, and of having more fun along the way. Here's to your own great adventure!

A lot of success wisdom in one book.

I've been going through a hard time in my life. I've listened to almost every success and wealth creation book and podcast, set out and struck out on 3 different businesses over the past 12 years, losing a lot of money and hit a point in my life where I want to give up. Resign to be ordinary like many people before me and not shoot for something great. In the midst of this I stumbled on this book the day it was released. That moment happened to be one of my lowest points and I was looking for some sort of inspiration to keep going. That's what this book brought to me. I'm a big fan of Bear Grylls, and his work on man vs. wild. Simply who the author was got me to take a chance on the book in a genre I felt burnt out in. While I can say there are a lot of books out there that cover the same content, it's his perspective that real appealed. The way he backs up the content with his stories and experiences helps bring life to what seemed like old hat concepts to me. In the end the greatest take ways for me are the need to be more cheerful in my life, seek to strive towards something I love doing and to refocus on each individual steps and break down bigger goals into smaller pieces no matter if you are climbing a mountain, or a mountain of debt. This book may not be for everyone but it certainly felt like it was meant for me. Hope is a powerful thing and more then anything else that's what I got from this book. The challenges life brought to me in the two weeks following reading this book proved to be more difficult then I ever thought two weeks could be but had I not read this book I don't think I could have hung in there through it all. I am grateful to Bear to share his story and hope someday I can meet him in person to tell him that. Until then this review will have to do. I highly recommend it to anyone struggling to figure out how to keep moving forward in life when you feel like the odds are against you.

Sexist

I bought this for myself and kids to listen as we love Bear Grylls other books. Sadly I felt this ostracised myself and my daughters. I have been a mountaineer and adventurer and hope my children will too but Bear seems to relate only to men, men, men in this book. It doesn’t say this in the title or on the cover. It’s as if he’s been to an all boys school with Winston Churchill on one wall and Jesus on the other and knows only women that cut the crusts off his sandwiches. Would have been nice to know how religious it would be before buying. Hope he gets some quotes from successful women or his daughters educate him going forward.
