Publisher's Summary

From the world-famous survival expert, learn how to make every day an unforgettable adventure.

Life in the outdoors teaches us invaluable lessons. Encountering the wild forces us to plan and execute goals, face danger, push our "limits," and sharpen our instincts. But our most important adventures don't always happen in nature's extremes. Living a purpose-driven, meaningful life can often be an even greater challenge....

In A Survival Guide for Life, Bear Grylls, globally renowned adventurer and television host, shares the hard-earned wisdom he's gained in the harshest environments on earth, from the summit of Mt. Everest to the boot camps of the British Special Forces:

  • What are the most important skills to learn if you really want to achieve your maximum potential?
  • How do you keep going when all the odds are stacked against you?
  • How can you motivate a team to follow you in spite of apparent risks?

Filled with exclusive, never-before-told tales from Bear's globe-trekking expeditions, A Survival Guide for Life teaches every listener no matter your age or - experience - that we're all capable of living life more boldly, of achieving our most daring dreams, and of having more fun along the way. Here's to your own great adventure!

"A lot of success wisdom in one book."

I've been going through a hard time in my life. I've listened to almost every success and wealth creation book and podcast, set out and struck out on 3 different businesses over the past 12 years, losing a lot of money and hit a point in my life where I want to give up. Resign to be ordinary like many people before me and not shoot for something great. In the midst of this I stumbled on this book the day it was released. That moment happened to be one of my lowest points and I was looking for some sort of inspiration to keep going. That's what this book brought to me. I'm a big fan of Bear Grylls, and his work on man vs. wild. Simply who the author was got me to take a chance on the book in a genre I felt burnt out in. While I can say there are a lot of books out there that cover the same content, it's his perspective that real appealed. The way he backs up the content with his stories and experiences helps bring life to what seemed like old hat concepts to me. In the end the greatest take ways for me are the need to be more cheerful in my life, seek to strive towards something I love doing and to refocus on each individual steps and break down bigger goals into smaller pieces no matter if you are climbing a mountain, or a mountain of debt. This book may not be for everyone but it certainly felt like it was meant for me. Hope is a powerful thing and more then anything else that's what I got from this book. The challenges life brought to me in the two weeks following reading this book proved to be more difficult then I ever thought two weeks could be but had I not read this book I don't think I could have hung in there through it all. I am grateful to Bear to share his story and hope someday I can meet him in person to tell him that. Until then this review will have to do. I highly recommend it to anyone struggling to figure out how to keep moving forward in life when you feel like the odds are against you.

This is is an excellent short on many different topics of life. Everyone struggles in some form. Guaranteed you will find simple, straightforward, no nonsense inspiration in this book. I have quoted Bear and cited examples from this book many times on Scout trips. It's a great Survival Guide for Life.

"A great book to listen to, multyple times"

In a world where we are encouraged to act like machines, this book teaches you how to be human, how to embrace it and be proud of it!

What I feel could have made it evem better is a bit more and longer examples from Bear's life to really back-up the learnings. This way the books ideeas would have been even easier to remember and embrace. But overall a great book!

"Great points for life, direct and honest."

Bear is an astonishing individual and it comes through in this book.

I love his directness, honesty, and humility.

Negatives? Maybe too many cliches but if they weren't true, they wouldn't be cliches.

Excellent book. Just a shame Bear didn't read it but this was quickly forgotten. Great performance.

"SUPER ADVICE without all the Mumbo Jumbo!!!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Of course.

What did you like best about this story?

All of Bear's advice is taken from his own personal experiences and that of his friends. I liked his tip: "Pretend You are Going to Fiji Tomorrow" Helpful for procrastinator's like myself. I better stop writing these reviews and get packing! : )

Have you listened to any of Tom Patrick Stephens’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I thought it was Bear narrating--oops.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    I DID!

    Any additional comments?

So much great advice--it needs to be listened to a few times. You can really only implement a few ideas at a time.
