Publisher's summary

In this inspiring memoir, an Ironman World Championship winner shares the details of her hard-earned triathlon success and encourages others to set off on their own fitness journeys.

In 2007, Chrissie Wellington shocked the triathlon world by winning the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. As a newcomer to the sport and a complete unknown to the press, Chrissie's win shook up the sport. A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS is the story of her rise to the top, a journey that has taken her around the world, from a childhood in England, to the mountains of Nepal, to the oceans of New Zealand, and the trails of Argentina, and first across the finish line.

Wellington's first-hand, inspiring story includes all the incredible challenges she has faced—from anorexia to near-drowning to training with a controversial coach. But to Wellington, the drama of the sports also presents an opportunity to use sports to improve people's lives.

A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS reveals the heart behind Wellington's success, along with the diet, training and motivational techniques that keep her going through one of the world's most grueling events.

Critic reviews

"What emerges from this book is the portrait of a thoroughly nice woman. Her exceptional qualities have led her to achievements that her readers can scarcely imagine. But she still remains touchingly connected to that ordinary girl from Norfolk."

---Jane Shilling, The Daily Mail

"What amazes me about Chrissie Wellington is not that she wins, but by how much...Like Usain Bolt, Wellington has burst on to the scene and destroyed the opposition. Those within athletics said that Bolt was coming but Wellington came from nowhere and wins by a relatively greater margin."

---James Cracknell, two time Olympic gold medalist, and adventurer
"Empowering and suitably commemorative."

---Kirkus Reviews

Outstanding book about an elite athlete

What made the experience of listening to A Life Without Limits the most enjoyable?

The story was excellent, I loved hearing Chrissie tell about herself with pure honesty. The good and the bad., She is a motivational person and very humble. I love how she states the real heroes are the amateurs who overcame such adversity to finish Iron Man competitions. She went on to name a few, and I'm glad she did. I have already purchased and finished listening to another story of one of those individuals because she mentioned him in her book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Life Without Limits?

When Chrissie took first for the women for the first time in Iron Man Hawaii.

Which character – as performed by Polly Lee and Chrissie Wellington – was your favorite?

Polly Lee does a great job of narrating for Chrissie. Thank you for casting an English woman as narrator as Chrissie is English and a times I felt like I was listening to Chrissie tell her own story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when Chrissie described her surprise then pleasure at winning her first Iron Man. I cried!

Any additional comments?

Even if you are not a runner, bicyclist, or other type of athlete, I think you will enjoy this story. It is about a woman who came out of nowhere to take everyone by surprise and win. This goes to show you that you can do anything if you decide you can. The book had a good pace and kept me interested the entire time.

Wow! An amazing, inspiring woman!

Chrissie Wellington. What a force!! This book was recommended to me by a friend, as I've just begun my transition from being "just a runner" into the triathlon world. Well, it was so much more than a triathlon book. Her story is will capture you from the beginning. When she talks about the fears, the dedication, the emotions and that feeling when you see the finish line - when you're "coming home", I felt very bit of it as she wrote it. I've felt it in my life, even though I'm the amateur runner with a day job she talks about. I love how she talks about not working toward perfection, but constantly working toward self improvement. This book and Chrissie's story, her pursuit of improvement and a well-rounded life, is worth your time. She will inspire you.

Inspirational

Would you consider the audio edition of A Life Without Limits to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but the audio performance was wonderful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chrissie. Inspirational.

Any additional comments?

This is a wonderful book with a strong story line. Chrissie's journey is so inspirational. I could have done without all of the United Nations stuff, but after all it is an autobiography. This is a book anyone can benefit from reading. Brilliant.

Great inside look into endurance sports

From an endurance sport perspective, it started a bit slow for my liking, but then turned really really interesting. Maybe just my impatience. Excellent narration.

Incredibly inspiring

I've now listened to this twice (and will listen again). This is truly an inspring book and Chapter 14 has brought me to tears both times!

Excellent. I've listened to over 300 books since 2008 and while many were very good, this is the first I listened to twice.
