The inventor of the World Wide Web explores his vision’s promise—and how it can be redeemed for the future. This audiobook is read by award-winning comedian, actor, presenter and director, Sir Stephen Fry. It also includes a bonus conversation between the author and narrator.

"Narrator Stephen Fry's plummy voice and English accent, combined with his enthusiasm for his topic, make him the perfect narrator. Even when dealing with the technical details of how the author arrived at his invention, his warmth and humor bring life to the subject matter." — AudioFile

Perhaps the most influential inventor of the modern world, Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a different kind of technologist. Born in the same year as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, he famously distributed his invention, the World Wide Web, for no commercial reward. Its widespread adoption changed everything—transforming humanity into the first digital species. Through the web, we live, work, dream, quarrel, and connect.

In this intimate memoir, Berners-Lee tells the story of his iconic invention, exploring how it launched a new era of creativity and collaboration while unleashing powerful forces that imperil truth and privacy and polarize public debate. With his trademark humor and candor, he recounts how he arrived at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, as a young engineer, and soon came up with the astonishing idea of adding hyperlinks to the then-nascent Internet. His goal was to unleash a wave of creativity and collaboration for the benefit of all—a goal he’s pursued to this day.

Peppered with rich anecdotes and amusing reflections, This Is for Everyone is a gripping, in-the-room account of the rise of the digital world. As the rapid development of artificial intelligence brings new risks and possibilities, Berners-Lee also offers a crucial guide to the decisions ahead—and shows how our digital lives can be reengineered for the sake of human flourishing rather than profit or for power.

After finishing this memoir I have a hard time understanding why one review calls the writer “ just another IT worker “ . Three things stand out for me: his acknowledgment at the London Olympics and the use of the phrase ‘ this is for everyone’; his explanation of Al Gore’s contribution to the Internet; his belief and work toward making social media and the internet in general less toxic and easier to use in secure, individualized ways.

I would have liked more depth about his personal life but I suppose I’ll just have to Google him ☺️

He chose the perfect title!

I’ve got a long list of bookmarks to read and learn from after finishing this book, I’m excited about the future of the internet again after many years of disillusionment.

Don’t waste your money or credit on this incredible boring missive of gibberish . Wow , he almost met Steve Jobs Wow , he had slipped disc in his back. Wow he had two kids. “Just because it happened to you doesn’t make it interesting “ Dennis Hopper. This is a meandering, at -best mediocre memoir of an IT worker. All I can say is don’t trust Airport book stores, This crap was featured there.

Horrible
