Publisher's summary

From Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurdardottir comes a thrilling and unique audiobook - the first in a stunning new series from the author of The Silence of the Sea, winner of the 2015 Petrona Award for Best Scandinavian Crime Novel.

The only person who might have the answers to a baffling murder case is the victim's seven-year-old daughter, found hiding in the room where her mother died. And she's not talking.

Newly-promoted, out of his depth, detective Huldar turns to Freyja for her expertise with traumatized young people. Freyja, who distrusts the police in general and Huldar in particular, isn't best pleased. But she's determined to keep little Margret safe.

It may prove tricky. The killer is leaving them strange clues: warnings in text messages, sums scribbled on bits of paper, numbers broadcast on the radio. He's telling a dark and secret story - but can they crack the code? And if they do, will they be next?

The Legacy is the first installment in a fantastic new series featuring the psychologist Freyja and the police officer Huldar.

Lucy Paterson is fantastic

Creepy, atmospheric and expertly read by Lucy Paterson. The story’s resolution is far-fetched but the characters are effectively 3-dimensional so it’s satisfying throughout.

Great Non-Stop Anticipation

This is a new author for me and the translation is incredible. The writing is really good and although there are quite a few in the primary and secondary cast their development is good. Emotions feel real and visceral whether frustration with solving the murders or the mind blowing fear of knowing your demise ends in torture. To have such a small child carry such a huge part of the book is incredible. It was her voice that brought me to tears a few times. Really a great listen!

Narration was excellent capturing all the characters and the extreme emotional ranges!!

Yrsa has done it again!

Once again this Icelander has spun a tale that is almost impossible to set down. The murder methods employed are not for the weak at heart but her characters are fully developed and great to know. Can't wait for her next one!

Didn’t see IT coming

Good story, but I’ve come to expect that from Yrsa. Could have done without the repetition of the numbers. Very surprising ending.

Another FANTASTIC read from Yrsa!

The rating system needs to add more stars to properly rate Yrsa's books - they're that good!

This one surprised me. I've enjoyed the Scandinavian noir writers Audible
brought into America. Not every
one- the older ones ate better....but I Iistened to most of
this- skipping the
short parts describing murders.
It starts out so well, a riveting thriller!
I'm still puzzling
the ending. :-)
I will buy another title by the author.

Really kept my interest!

I enjoyed the book very much! Characters were likable, but not perfect people. The prologue gave you an idea of why bad things were happening, but not so much that you could see exactly what was coming. I was very impressed with the narrators ability to provide the child with a voice that was truly childlike - that was crucial. Two thumbs up from me on both story and narrator.

Absolutely Engrossing

Everything about this mystery make it nearly impossible to continue to its end without a stop. This would be an excellent choice for a long road trip—maybe around the Ring Road!

Absolutely PERFECT in EVERY WAY

Albeit the manner of death is hair raising, such a well-crafted book (don't start unless you have the time to be completely captivated; it is a book that is difficult NOT to greedily consume in one sitting). Thrilled to have discovered this author, and if you like your police procedurals PURE (rather than the chick- lit romance slash mystery light books that are the norm these days) you will be thrilled too! The only negative is that precious few have been translated to English, and even fewer recordered as Audible selections, so you have the choice. of either gorging on these few as if at a Thanksgiving feast or parsing them out slowly as if consuming. a box of your favorite chocolates one-by-one. the same negative exists despite which option you chose, you come to the end of this rare fare FAR TOO SOON.Herald the new queen of the crime thriller, this wonderful author!
