The first book from Ruth Bader Ginsburg since becoming a Supreme Court Justice in 1993—a witty, engaging, serious, and playful collection of writings and speeches from the woman who has had a powerful and enduring influence on law, women’s rights, and popular culture.

My Own Words offers Justice Ginsburg on wide-ranging topics, including gender equality, the workways of the Supreme Court, being Jewish, law and lawyers in opera, and the value of looking beyond US shores when interpreting the US Constitution. Throughout her life Justice Ginsburg has been (and continues to be) a prolific writer and public speaker. This book’s sampling is selected by Justice Ginsburg and her authorized biographers Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams. Justice Ginsburg has written an introduction to the book, and Hartnett and Williams introduce each chapter, giving biographical context and quotes gleaned from hundreds of interviews they have conducted. This is a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of America’s most influential women.

II expected the book would be more about the personal life of a woman and legal scholar who I admire so much. Instead, I learned a LOT more about the laws and Supreme Court decisions that have importantly shaped a growing democracy.

Women of the United States owe a huge debt of gratitude for the work of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her name should take its place in the history books along side the likes of Susan B. Anthony, Betty Friedan, Doris Stevens and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Every child, male or female, should be taught and appreciate the contributions to our society of RBG. Long may she wave!

Love her. This book definitely does her justice, no pun intended. I would recommend it as required reading for anyone who wants an overall view of Ginsburg's achievements.

Wonderfully told story about RBG.

RBG is Wonder Woman. The writing is smart and deceptively simple, humbly walking us through incredible progress towards gender equality earned through steady, patient, wise and really hard work.

I have never really paid any attention to the individuals who make up the Supreme Court of the United States. I had no idea how the Supreme Court worked and how important it is to the rights of we, the people.

This story, with most of the book recorded in Ruth Bader Ginsburg's own slowly considered voice, explains her life story, from not being allowed to attend college to become a lawyer, to graduating with a law degree but not being able to get a job as a lawyer because she made the mistake of being born a woman. Her life history developed one of the most important people to ever sit on the Supreme Court.

Enjoy the journey!
