About this listen
The good news is that public defender Summer Neuwirth just won her first case, which involved a brutal rape and kidnapping.
The bad news? Her client was guilty.
What's more, he knows all about Summer's past.
As Summer pursues her next case, this time to keep an innocent woman off death row, elements of that past--a mysterious case of childhood amnesia, her police officer father's involvement with a serial killer, a terrifying attack she survived just months earlier--entwine with her present legal work, her missing mother, and her rocky relationship with a private investigator, all of which culminate in a thrilling trial... and terror.

Yes! The book is well-written and full of twists and turns, and Jack De Golia is a master at bringing the characters to life.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I was enthralled and fully engaged in this book from the first chapter, and never predicted the ending…never even came close to predicting the ending.
Have you listened to any of Jack de Golia’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The crappy lives of public defenders.
What a funny, entertaining look into the world of public prosecutors. A thankless, frustrating, underpaid crappy job. A clever, complicated, well thought out book. Many characters. Many storylines. Summer gets her guilty client off only to harass and abuse her. Then she has to prove Innocence for a falsely accused woman for murder. Very entertaining.
I listened to the audio version of this book. The narration was done very well. 5 stars for him.

Twists at every turn
I really enjoyed this novel. It grabbed me from the beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat. It had quite a few plot twists that I didn't see coming and then ending was a shocker. I would love to read another book about the characters of Summer and Ty and what happens to them after this book.
Mr. de Golia did a fine job narrating this book and gave each character its own 'voice'. I would recommend this book to friends looking for a mystery/suspense novel with a twist!

GREAT NARRATION MAKES GOOD MYSTERY ENTERTAINING
Any additional comments?
I was engrossed by this book from the first page to the last. Public defender Summer Neuwith”s client, Marsalis, is found not guilty of rape, then stalks her and turns out to be a creepy, techno-expert who knows too much about her and can watch her every move. There are several story lines, including Summer defending the woman accused of murdering prosecutor Harold Gundy, who is Summers courtroom adversary. The ending was a surprise.
What enhanced this book was the narration by Jack de Golia, who brought the characters to life. At times, it felt like I was listening to an old radio play, with different actors performing each role rather than Mr. de Golia performing them all. In particular, Mr. de Golia did an excellent job with the voice for the creepy Marsalis.
I will definitely listen to other books narrated by Mr. de Golia.

Mysterios and Terrifying!
I first must admit that I am not big on mysteries and I held back on listening to this story for far too long. I'm happy that I did decide to listen to it because author Adam L. Penenberg did a great host with creating this story. I don't give away details in my reviews because I'm always worried that I will spoil it for others. I just tend to explain how good the story is or if it wasn't. I will say it was a great story and worth the credit or the purchase. I do believe that Adam is well known in the media for things he's done and his stories have been opted for films. I might be wrong but I think I'm right when I write this.
Adam's story of Trial and Terror kept me fully engaged from start to finish. This was my first time listening to anything by this author but I will definitely look for more of his stories. It was one of those on the edge of your seat masterpieces. I found it to be the type of mystery that I really enjoy. You couldn't get enough of the creepy, the mysterious, and suspenseful. The storyline is filled with plots and unexpected twist throughout the story. Adam Penenberg definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to writing this type of mystery.
The narrator, Jack Dr Golia did a magnificent job with his telling of this story. I've never listened to any of his stories but I'm extremely glad that I finally got to this story. I found home to be extremely talented and a wide vocal range. Every character's voice and accents were outstanding. He is a very talented narrator and it shows throughout the story. I will definitely be looking forward to listening to more of this narrator's work.
