About this listen

Therapists do not and cannot give answers. Explore the true nature of the therapeutic relationship, and realize that the guru is no Buddha. He is just another human struggling. This felt like a Dick and Jane version of becoming emotionally and spiritually intelligent. Perhaps I’m jaded from living in Northern California, the home of the human potential movement?
It felt like an hour and a half of a someone trying to convince us that psychotherapists are the same as guru’s. A bit of a stretch.
The Womens lib references really feel like the 70s.

Feels Dated

I enjoyed listening to this book. The storytelling was well done. I learned a few things and was entertained. There are a few words of the time that we no longer use. The lessons are worth the moments of discomfort, my opinion.
It's worth a listen. :)

Found it interesting

The book was recommended to me by a friend. Not knowing what to expect, it started strong with the opening. After that it was okay, not bad not great. There's some things to be learnt but if you're looking for help with a spiritual journey I'd look elsewhere. At the same time it's not the best for learning or for its stories. Its short though so it's not too long to give a try and see if you like it. I must say I wasn't bored through any of it.

Short and somewhat interesting

This was assigned reading in the 1970s in colleges all across the country. I escaped having to read it then. Since it was cheap to free on Amazon I thought I should probably read it. I'm glad I did and I'm ever so grateful the audiobook was abridged. I also had the full book on Kindle to skim along with the reading, which was better then reading the whole thing. I found the whole endeavor to come off as smug and to have an "I know something you don't know" air to it. While the kernels of truth can be distilled and savored, we didn't really need all those words to accomplish the task.

This was probably groundbreaking at the time

This book was not what I was expecting, but that’s to say I was pleasantly surprised. Older material but still applicable and interesting

Truly enlightening

This abridged version barely scratches the surface of this book. Do yourself a favor and read the paperback.

The case studies are good, but the sound quality is poor with music behind the transitions and a lot of crackle or vocal fry in the voice of the reader.
The case studies are not linked in a profound way. There was an opportunity to make this a more spiritual study about enlightenment than about therapy (which is also important). Overall I’m disappointed.

Recording quality is poor/dated

The audio book is toooo short. It's a really "A"bridged version of the book. Good material. But not enough for a book.

"AAA"bridged version
