Unique historical fiction

I love historical fiction and was thrilled to find a story about a unique historical event. I'd never thought much about the invention of the submarine. This book opened my eyes to the events that transpired around its invention in a very entertaining way. From my fact-checking after I listened to the book, it appears most of the events are portrayed accurately. Connecting with the characters was easy and fun.

This book is appropriate for middle-grade readers and up.

Revolutionary tale examines courage

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Attack of the Turtle is a children's book set during the American Revolution. The 14-year-old main character is afraid of many things. The book takes a look at history, science, faith and the meaning of courage. There are some mild curses in keeping with a battle scene, but I still recommend this audiobook for the older child.

Wonderful Historical Fiction

I had my 13 year old read this with me and we both really liked it a lot. He told me it made you feel like you were there getting to experience it with the characters. My son really likes history so he thought this book was great, wasn't too graphic but had enough detail and action to keep the imagery and pace going.

Wonderful Tale of Believing in Oneself

I found this story to be a wonderful adventure about a grown man, David, discovering his purpose in the world and never giving up hope. It is also about a young teen, Nathan, who has allowed fear to direct his actions for much of his life. When this family comes together, they discover what courage really means and belief in each other.

This is really a great tale inspired by true historical events and the inventor David Bushnell and submarine pilot Ezra Lee. Narrator Stephen Sanders brings each of these characters to life with his performance. He fluidly handles the dialog between characters, who are of various ages and education. This was a thoroughly engaging and enjoyable listening experience.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the narrator/author. My review is voluntarily given.

“Finding yourself” story

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author.
This book is based on true events- the use of the turtle to fight the British, the names of the two brothers (they were real people), but the majority of the story is fiction. Good fiction however. I found it to be an interesting tale. It’s very much an “overcome your fears” story.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Stephen Sanders ) and I would listen to another. He did a great job reading this book. His character voices were well done and his reading style was nice to listen to.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.
