Publisher's Summary

The music of Frank Sinatra, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and many other artists provides the score to the reflections of a musician on the road in this memoir of Neil Peart's travels from Los Angeles to Big Bend National Park. The emotional associations and stories behind each album Peart plays guide his recollections of his childhood on Lake Ontario, the first bands that he performed with, and his travels with the band Rush. The evocative and resonant writing vividly captures the meanderings of a musical mind, leading rock enthusiasts to discover inside information about Rush and the musical inspirations of a rock legend.

Where does Traveling Music rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Numero uno!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Traveling Music?

    The whole book.

Which character – as performed by Brian Sutherland – was your favorite?

Niel Peart. UHMM...Isn't it an autobio?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Extreme? No, Just a kind of awe & reverence like any of his writing.Okay , I suppose that's extreme.

    Any additional comments?

I really am impressed and surprised that he let go of so much personal info. It's common knowledge among fans that he wears very little on his sleeve much less speak of his personal life so candidly. I'm a life long Rush fan from the very 1st album (With Rutsey) I became a hyper-fan after that obviously from the addition of Niel. I'm a musician and writer so I've soaked up every word he's ever let loose of and every note they've ever played, or as many as humanly possible. I have a theory they can't possibly be human. Humans aren't perfect if you catch what I'm tossing. Musically at least. I don't mean overall.

    Any additional comments?

It was so enjoyable listening to Neil's engaging commentary of his traveling via BMW (car & moto) and the music that shaped his life. He introduces one to a wide variety of musical styles, from Sinatra to Madonna told from a thoughtful and personal perspective. Not only do you learn about the music that influenced him to become the accomplished drummer that he is for Rush, but are also treated to a historical and biographical commentary of the albums and musicians of this "traveling music". I found myself hunting down music that I wouldn't normally have sought and discovered some real gems.
As usual, Brian Sutherland does a fantastic job of delivering the nuances of the charm, whit and sense of Mr. Peart's writing.
I can see myself putting this one on again and again in the years to come.
