This Time Together is 100 percent Carol Burnett: funny, irreverent, and irresistible.
Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won 25 Emmys in its remarkable 11-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. Listening to it feels like sitting down with an old friend who has wonderful tales to tell.
In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary "Went With the Wind" skit; and things that would happen only to Carol. Those include the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice-cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough." (Julie Andrews)
"I grew up watching Carol Burnett. She's an amazing actress, talented writer and legendary comedienne. She inspired me to do what I'm doing today. And believe me, if I knew how to read, I would definitely read this book." (Ellen DeGeneres)
"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol." (Billy Crystal)
carol burnett has always been a hero of mine eversince i fell in love with her show. her stories are engaging and profound. i loved her book and i loved hearing her voice. she kept me enthralled all the way through to the end. thanks carol.
This book is one of the best books in the world and with Carol reading it made it that much better. I laughed, I cried, and I gasped. I can't say it enough, what a wonderful book. What a Classy Lady. We love you Carol and Thank You for being the person you are.
Who better to read her book than Carol herself? I found myself laughing out loud at some of her stories. It's worth it just to hear her reveal the evolution of the "tarzan yell". This isn't a long book but it's one I'm glad I have in my library.
I never saw her show since it was before my time. But I really enjoyed this book and it's put together in a mostly chronological order even though it's a collection of stories more than a memoir. It definitely made me want to look up her show, movies etc.
I really enjoyed this book. I believe I listened to the abridged version before because there were some stories I remembered (Joan Crawford) and some I didn't.
I highly recommend this walk down memory lane if you've ever watched a Carol Burnett show in your life!
A great trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up with the Carol Burnett show. She shares inside stories of her life as well as shedding insight on what the entertainment industry was like in those days. A one of a kind comedian and storyteller! I'm so glad we all got this time together with Carol Burnett!
I love this book, because you really live her life through her eyes. Experience every of every down, you left you cry you loves the more you cry some more and you're so glad at the end that we all spend the time together.
This was really good for me. I was a big fan of the show. I remember it so well, so of course the things mentioned in the book were especially meaningful to me. Then to have Carol as the narrator was especially great. I recommend it to any fan of that era. I'm afraid someone who wasn't even around then might not appreciate it. Although some young people surprise me in that they really have an interest in things from that era and watch the old reruns and actually have a better understanding than one might think.
Thank you Ms. Burnette for sharing your insight into that wonderful time in entertainment history. I really enjoyed it.
On a quest for a book that will knock Tina Fey's "Bossypants" out and win the coveted title of "My Favorite Book."
I learned a lot about her and each story was fun to hear. It made me want to hang out with her.
I would not recommend it, because it doesn't have many interesting stories.
With her vast experience in show-biz and having rubbed shoulders with many performing Greats, I'm surprised her tales were so lacklustre. Was she holding back the juicy stuff because she's such a lady? I would have expected a much more interesting book.
She has an expressive speaking voice.
