This Time Together is 100 percent Carol Burnett: funny, irreverent, and irresistible.
Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won 25 Emmys in its remarkable 11-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. Listening to it feels like sitting down with an old friend who has wonderful tales to tell.
In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary "Went With the Wind" skit; and things that would happen only to Carol. Those include the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice-cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough." (Julie Andrews)
"I grew up watching Carol Burnett. She's an amazing actress, talented writer and legendary comedienne. She inspired me to do what I'm doing today. And believe me, if I knew how to read, I would definitely read this book." (Ellen DeGeneres)
"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol." (Billy Crystal)
Rating scale: 5=Loved it, 4=Liked it, 3=Ok, 2=Disappointed, 1=Hated it. I look for well developed characters, compelling stories.
In spite of Carol's unmistakable voice - which is a treat to listen to - I was disappointed to find that listening to a narrative of her career highlights was not nearly as entertaining as watching her. Not as many laughs as I had hoped.
This is such a wonderful and funny book. Carol's sense of humor is, as always, most excellent. I laughed my way through the book. A great listen!

This was so enjoyable I was disappointed when it ended. It even included your tarzan yell!! I'm so glad we had this time together...........
I've listened to a couple memoirs read by the author now and I have come to the realization that I would prefer them to just tell us the story rather than to be reading the book... I guess that's my own problem - I should probably avoid the memoirs :) Although the passage about the death of her daughter was heartrending and her emotionality did add to the experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this lovely lady. There are so many good books out there, that it is hard to find the time to re-read anything. This one is so good and short enough, that I am sure I will return to it often. I only wish other books by her and read by her were on Audible!
I am not a huge Carol Burnett fan, but I have always enjoyed her wit and creativity. She reveals what a normal person she is and shares many lovely inside stories and personal life experiences.
Carol still has me laughing.... she sweetly tells of her start in the business and the subsequent 40 some years... with anecdotes and confessions .... if you need a mood boost this is a good one to try.
Truly Inspirational...Carol Burnett is my hero. I enjoyed every single minute of this book. I laughed and cried along with her. I feel that she is my friend.
Thank you Mrs. Burnett.
"I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this"
I have no interest in most recently published biographies, autobiographies or memoirs. Most are written by or about two-bit entertainers or overpaid sportsmen and women (some of whom are so young they have little of interest to report!).
Carol Burnett's 'This Time Together' does not fall in to this category. It helps that I spent the years of her 'heyday' in the USA so am familiar with her TV programme, but her recollections of the stars with whom she worked are wonderfully detailed and would be of interest to anyone interested in the old-time stars of Hollywood.
And the personal aspects of her life are described well and more than once moved me to tears. But sometimes too I was moved to tears of laughter - and thanks to the Internet was able to find some of the clips of her comedy show that were riotously described. And I cried with laugher again.
I can't recommend this audiobook highly enough. It is particularly good because it is read by the author who has an excellent 'speaking' voice that is easy to understand. I could not help but be moved by the emotion in her voice. It won't be long before I listen again.
