Publisher's summary

This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett—funny, irreverent, and irresistible.Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run.

Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another. In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary “Went with the Wind” skit; and things that would happen only to Carol—the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium. This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

Critic reviews

"These short memories, of the people Burnett met and interviewed over the years, on- and off-camera, bring it back — the golden age of variety shows....Burnett has a writer's eye for the moment, the detail, the slip that reveals character. She's never mean and always grateful."—Los Angeles Times

"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol. "—Billy Crystal

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough."—Julie Andrews

Detailed, Hilarious, and at Times Heartbreaking!

I enjoyed listening to this very detailed compilation of stories and anecdotes from the amazing life of legendary comic genius - Carol Burnett. Yes, she tells stories about friends of hers and colleagues who happen to me famous in the general public mind... However, anyone who listens to this book quickly realizes that Mrs Burnett is as down to earth as one could be. she's so humble about her own talents and accolades.

She deeply respects her peers and legends of old Hollywood. it's obvious from this book that Ms Burnett absolutely adores her family! she is not a Hollywood snob who is aloof or untouchable. chapter 53 is completely gripping & will not leave the listener's spirit! Carol Burnett is so much more than a universally beloved sketch comedian. I'm glad I spent this time, and you will be too!

Listening to Carol brought back memories to when I was young watching her show. I laughed so much with the curtain story and the dentist story. Oh how I remember those moments. Thanks for the memories, Carol, I love you!!!

Carol was the best!

Love Carol! As a 60-something Baby Boomer, I well remember those days in the 1970s when every family in the neighborhood was gathered around TV sets watching this show, every Saturday night. The Tarzan yodels, the skits with Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. The audience Q and A's, the sweet tug on the ear after singing "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together." Those were the days, indeed. Loved this walk down memory lane!

Classicly Carol

In this memoir, Carol highlights some of her most vulnerable anecdotes in of course a comical, yet surprisingly raw fashion. Hearing her voice as one visits her past with her is a gift.

Time Together Review by Marilyn Gagnon

I just loved this book and was sad when it ended. Hearing Carol’s voice narrating it, just gave me a happy smile remembering all the programs I had watched during all my years. I am now 82, 83 in July. Thank you Carol for sharing the memories and even hearing your Tarzan call so loud and clear. I never knew about your personal life and the loss of your talented daughter. I am going to listen to this all over again. Thank you Carol, Marilyn
