the depths of his heart

What made the experience of listening to They Made a Monkee Out of Me the most enjoyable?

Davy's voice was always distinctive, and in this you hear not only his lovely tones, but his lovely soul.

What did you like best about this story?

Davy narrating about his reconciliation with Micky Dolenz, and how he developed so much more respect for him after that.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both laughed and cried. A picture developed of a man who trusted people, trusted the world, and was frequently abused for it, and whose talent was enormous.

Any additional comments?

Peter Tork said that the saddest thing about Davy's passing was that most would never know the depth and breadth of this man's heart, that Davy was the most heartfelt man he'd ever known. This book, and Davy's voice narrating it, reveals that heart.

Good listen!!!!

This is a great book! Even though it's short, Davy gets straight to the point and tells his story. No real shocking details, but a fun "read."

Monkee

Not as much Monkee information as I would have hoped for or expected. Davy's rather thick accent forced me to have to really pay attention in order to understand. Still quite entertaining all in all.

Davy, Always the Entertainer :-)

What made the experience of listening to They Made a Monkee Out of Me the most enjoyable?

Davy's narration provided me with an opportunity to travel along with him while he relived his life's journey. He made me feel like a participant rather than a spectator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The most poingnant point in the book occurred for me at the end of the book when I realized just how much Davy Jones loved performing for the people he loved, his fans. His untimely death is an enormous loss.

Any additional comments?

Davy may have been diminutive in size, but he was enormous in talent, passion, and dedication - the consumment entertainer!

A hundred percent Davy!

Since it was written in 1986 it’s very short but just so essentially Davy Jones. It’s funny and real, making me nostalgic for when he was still alive 💖
One of my favorite quick listens about a Manchester cowboy 🐄

Something to Monkey around with

Davy Jones does a wonderful job of telling his story and how he came to be one of the Monkeys, but he doesn't give us much about his castmates or the rest of his life. This is a fast moving book and leaves out a lot of details, yet is enjoyable because he is obviously a man who has enjoyed all the ups and downs of his life.

Disappointing

This review could have been a 3 or 4 had it not been for the substandard audio quality of the recording. Davy was just the right person to narrate the book and hearing it in his voice definitely added to the experience. I only wish I could have heard it better.

A nothing sandwich

The recording was very poor quality. His voice seemed rushed. He didn’t add anything new that wasn’t covered in the book Monkee Business. Very disappointed. Would not waste your credit.

Miss the Monkees

Who would have thought that 3/4ths of the Monkees would be gone before The Rolling Stones? I was only 7 at the height of the TV show but I still remember the series fondly. Marcia Brady was so lucky!! Would have liked to have had more discussion on the group itself but I understand what Davy said at the end. Thank you for the music and the memories.
