Publisher's summary

Experience the unforgettable, heartbreaking love story set in post-World War II North Carolina about a young socialite and the boy who once stole her heart—one of PBS's "Great American Reads".

Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story—it becomes an experience to remember forever. The Notebook is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again . . .

At thirty-one, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twenty-nine, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle . . .

Just okay

I wanted to read the book because of the movie, but there were some significant differences. The book provided less of a love story than I expected. I was actually a little disappointed by the story as told in the book. The narrator did a good job, though.

I absolutely loved it! <3

Where does The Notebook rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have to say in my top five atleast!

What did you like best about this story?

I love this aughtor, this is the third book i've "read" now and I'm going to keep on listening to the rest he has written too. I hope they are as greate as this one. The thing I liked the best? That nicholas manages to create the "perfect guy" and bring him to life for all us hopless romantics hoping to find our prince charming!

What does Barry Bostwick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think he sounded like the noah i pictured in my head!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Its already a film, but it would be something like "world's best lovestory!"

Any additional comments?

Absolutely one of my favorites!

Best love story ever written

It's absolutely the best love story ever written, ever read, ever listed to, or ever watched on screen. It is so sweetly sad, tragically romantic, it is epic.

The Notebook is the love story to beat all love stories.

Well Written

This book makes me wish I wrote more letters to my husband throughout our years.

The story is written in wonderful prose. The rhythm is great and the romance is sweet.

The sad part is the thief of life that is called Alzheimer’s.

The narrator is wonderful and respectful to the text. I have seen the movie but never read the book until it hit a bucket list of mine. I’m sorry I waited so long. As an older adult I think I’m more respectful about the entire book and the characters whole journey instead of romancing their younger years only.

Gave me Goosebumps

It's short but so much more powerful than the movie. I love that in the book he reads Allies final letter to Noah. Wish that had been in the movie. I will say I don't like how in the movie Noah and Allie fight before she goes back to hotel to meet her finance. In the book it's much more sad, romantic, and meaningful.
