Publisher's Summary

At 31, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At 29, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle.

"The movie was so much better!"

Don't waist your time and watch the movie, it's the first book that I see that is not as good as the movie...

    "Touching!!"

My first Nicholas Sparks and it was fantastic. The love story was touching and romantic without being gushy. You rarely see or hear of true love like described in this book. It was very refreshing.

    "Excellent Love Story"

I saw the movie but I will always think the book, and now listening to the audio is so much better. I cried as hard, even harder, I felt the pain and felt the joy. Nicholas Sparks is an amazing man who has managed to capture all the emotions of the heart. I truly love him as an author..and he is probably my favorite. I would highly recommend this audio.

    "The Notebook"

I saw the movie and absolutely loved it. Listening to this book was a task, as it was difficult for me to get past parts of the narration. Barry Bostwick, sounds perfect as the voice of an older Noah but fails miserably as the voice of a young Allie. Hearing him change his voice to a higher pitch to befit that of a young woman was awful. Worse yet, was listening to him describe the love scenes -- he sounds like a creepy, perverted old man (leaving me to feel icky all over). I had to literally force myself to finish listening to the beautiful story, all the while pushing the recollection of his creepy narration out of my mind.

    "My favorite book so far"

I read the book, listened to book and saw the movie. My favorite so far is the audio-version. Highly recommended. Much better than the rescue which I find a little far-fetched and overly gooey.

    "Half a great romance"

Having read two of his other books, I knew I could expect a beautiful romance from Sparks, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the first half, even found it difficult to turn off, but the climax seemed to come too soon, and I found myself wondering, "What else can happen?" The story seemed to be over." Well, the second half went on and on and nothing else of consequence ever did happen. He seemed to be really stretching. Worse, the last half was overly sentimental, cliche, and redundant. I'd give the first half 5 stars and the second half one.

    "Too sappy...even for a woman"

As a typical female, I usually enjoy love stories. Although this book make me cry because of it's sappy story, it went on for too long, especially towards the end when you feel like the author got the story out and you start wondering why does the book keep on going. There isn't much happening in the book, mainly conversation and reminiscing and since I only listen to audio books in my car, it's not the kind of book that makes time (or traffic) go faster.
