Publisher's summary

The complete, unabridged audiobook of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Continuing the story begun in The Hobbit, this is the first part of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, available as a complete and unabridged audiobook.

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power - the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring - the ring that rules them all - which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Read in when i was age 17-26-36-45-60

I always enjoyed reading lord of the rings it has been there for me when the world seems so disappointing. I need the hope good will triumph over evil. The smallest of people’s shall win over greediest in power, wish I had this book during Nixon’s years but since the school system was so bad I couldn’t read well enough to comprehend this children’s book. Thank god I kept at it till I taught myself & now I’m extremely well read. It’s a great READ at any age and I recommend it to someone who has trouble understanding what they read because you take it slow, read alone at night when it’s quiet. And when your done and I promise towards the third chapter (book) you’ll find it hard to put it down. After these books you’ll be able to read any book you care to read. For me it was the American history. English history, African American, Native American, Mexican American, 1492 before European’s came to the America’s. Hawaiian Histories, and on,an on,an on. This book started my reading obsession thank you J. R. R. Tolkien. It’s been quite a ride

Timeless adventure

Rob Inglis does a marvelous job narrating this classic among classics. His rendition of the various songs may be a point of contention with some, but for the rest of the text his storyteller's voice delivers the riveting fantasy adventure in a most befitting way.

Excellent narration

Would you listen to The Lord of the Rings again? Why?

I have loved The Lord of the Rings since I first read it in the 70s and have read it many times since. This narration by Rob Inglis really brings it to life and I have noticed things in the description of the story that I haven't noticed before in my own readings.

"The Lord of the Rings" is 1 novel, not 6.

Any additional comments?

For some reason "The Lord of the Rings" was split into 6 separate downloads, even though it's by all standards a single book. Different parts of it are not meant to be read by themselves.

Audible locks you out of the rest of Inglis' LotR.

It appears you can get this title when you first sign up for audible, but if you think you're going to spend the rest of your tokens to get the whole series, think again Americans. Once you log in to your account you get a red error saying, "Due to publishing agreements, this title is not available in the country where you live." I hope I can cancel without penalty.

Excellent

Great narration of a great story. Not much more to say, really. I listen to this every now and then. The films do not do the books (nor audiobooks) justice.
