i only listened to this book cos my wife wanted me to, but i love every minute of it. simple story with real heart written brilliantly.... i dare anyone not to enjoy this book.
I cannot praise this book highly enough!!
Each character was read so well that I was both thrilled and amazed. I did not think before buying it that all the characters would be played out as well but I was pleasantly surprised. I warmed to the characters from the opening lines. I went through a series of emotions while reading this as it is so thought provoking and touching and funny and awful at the same time. When I say it is awful I mean details of the way people were treated were awful but I recommend everyone to read this.I had read the book previous to this and I can say this book told the story very well. The character of Minnie is hilarious and you cant help smile listening to her being portrayed on here. I could just picture her in my head so easily as she sarcastically answered back .In fact all the main characters are really great. Please go buy this book as it is a really really great story .
I really felt I was living in Mississippi in 1962 while I was listening to this book. If I didn't have my earbuds in the story was going round and round in my head, my family lost me for about a week. The story flows really well and the narration is the most beauiful thing about the book. I want Aibileen in my life and I want to have a baby just so I can call her Maymobili and I want someone to call me "Baby" just the way that Stuart Whitworth calls Skeeter "Baby", but I am so glad that I live in a, hopefully, more enlightened age. I also loved that the ending was hopeful without being sugary. This book is an amazing listen.
This book is magnificent. It is well read and I didn't want to listen to the last bit because I didn't want it to end.
Apart from the fact that this is a lovely story, I was blown away by the dramatisation of the text... it wasn't a reading at all; it was an artistic production. It was so well done, that I almost felt I was watching a film... the acting was so professional that I could "see" everything that was happening. I just couldn't stop listening, and like any good film, I'll be going to it again and again.
This story was just great. The narraters did a fabulous job, made the characters very beleivable with the accents. I just couldn't stop listening, it really had me enthralled, but i must say i was a little dissappointed with the ending, but mostly just because I wanted to know what happened further down the track, to me it seemed to end quite suddenly. But all in all a great book, very highly recomended.
I dithered for a long while about buying The Help because books so often don't live up to their hype and because I was afraid it was just going to play the emotional card be a tear jerker. This one really does live up to the hype and while it is very emotional in just about every way you can think of, it's in a good way. You come out of it in the end wishing you could meet the characters and either hug them, or give them a piece of your mind and then some. It's a great story, well written and well narrated. I just don't think there's enough good that can be said about this book. Well done Kathryn Stockett. Well done narrators.
This is one of the best books I have heard, the narration by four actors is simply beautiful and the story so gripping I couldn't stop listening.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
Both the writing and the narration were effortless. I totally agree with the person below who said "Time Traveler" - I feel like I've existed in two places at once for the few weeks or so that I've been listening to this novel. This is a compassionate and redemptive story and my only regret is that it's over.
This is one of the best (of very many!) audiobooks I have listened to. The writing and narration are equally superb. The characters were brilliantly brought to life and, for a while, I felt privileged to be a part of their lives. Moving & haunting, the insight into the world of these women was both awesome and humbling.
This was my first audio book and I chose it because I had a copy of the paperback but knew I wouldn't be able to read the voices so I jumped at this one. I loved the story from start to finish, just like other reviewers you won't want to stop listening. The narrators brought the characters alive and set a standard which will be hard to beat.
"Buy it now!!"
This is a brilliant book, the narration is top notch, with several different people playing a part, really felt like a film (which is being released in August. I believe, in the US anyway). I loved this book, the characters, the stroy line, the moving portrayal of racism in a segregated deep south. I would highly recommend this read.
Loved every bit of this book despite the fact that the subject matter didnt interest me. I decided to try it purely on the reviews it had. Fantastic listen, cant praise it highly enough.
"Not much happens and yet you can't put it down"
Never one for a quite read about a backwater town's social scean - even with the racial tension twist. But this book is an exception that makes you laugh, cry and shout all in just a few pages.
"It Helped Me..."
I loved this book..I couldn't put it down, beautifully defined characters that draw you into their lives and the book. It's easy to warm to the characters too. A story of courage and Pride..Well worth a read.
A great book, pure class
I loved every minute of The Help. It is read beautifully and you fall deep into the lives of the characters almost immediately.
What a wonderful and surprising book.
I found myself listening to it at every opportunity I had, even when I could just grab a couple of minutes here and there. I imagine this is one I might listen to again as well which is unusual for most audible books.
I recommend this highly
"Enjoyed every minute!"
Fantastic audiobook. The story is good but the narrators make it tough to stop listening. A must for everyone!
"Charming and engaging"
I look forward to more from this author.
Her writing style and overall story was comprehensive, engaging and involving. A sensitively written story, well read by good narrators. My only criticism would be a slightly weak ending, but I would be happy to read more from this author.
