Publisher's Summary

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.

When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

    "Slow to start"

This took quite a while to get into, but is well worth the wait. The journalistic style is quite tedious when sifting through all the background, but I guess the scene has to be set some how. This has to be listened to though if only so you can get on to the next two stories which are amazing

    "Fab... but 1 production comment..."

No point adding anything to the story reviews. A fantastic book.

However, my download has the slightly annoying 'You have reached the end of Cassette 17 - Side 1' about 30 mins from the end of the whole book... That's a bit lax on the production side, I'm afraid... and its interesting to know that people still listen to something this long on cassettes !!!

    "Really twisty story, really enjoyable."

    A quite brutal book!

Excellent storyline, with many unexpected twists and moments of excitement.

Sexy, scary with interesting, well rounded characters. A great book that was hard to put down.

    "Enjoyable"

I found this book a very good listen.
The story line is excellent and the characters are well worked out. The narration is very clear and you can clearly separate each character from the accents used

    "Super"

I listened to this book last but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the story. It answered a lot of questions though so I intend to listen to the whole trilogy again in a short while in the right order because I loved it all ..the story, Lisbet, the narration..it was fabulous and I would recommend it to anyone. It was also really good having all the foreign names and places spoken with the correct pronunciation. If I had been reading this I would have been guessing at it and it would have been wrong.Superb.

    "Don't give up!"

This story, as other reviewers have already said, does take a while to get going. Having listened to all three books, I am very glad I stuck with it.
The story, when it gets going is absorbing, and Saul's narration is simply superb.
If I were to critisise, I would say that some of the idiom is lost in translation, and there is probably too much detail given when describing the various computers used, as we all know, computers improve all the time, and this will probably 'age' the story in time.
If you can get through the first two or three hours, you won't be disappointed.

    "Good Thriller"

I found the opening chapters complex, rather than slow, with many, many characters introduced in a short time.

Once your head stops spinning it settles into a good thriller with plenty of interwoven threads.

It suddenly turns a little 'Dan Brown' on you for a while about two thirds of the way through when a set of coincidences and lucky guesses make things slot into place too quickly. Then it settles back down.

A life enhancing read into refreshing and innovative writing, despite a strong masculine slant. Absolutely fantastic!

    "A captivating 'read'"

This is my first purchase of a 'crime' and suspense type novel - I usually read self improvement and 'how to' material but I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook!
It does get off to a slow start and it took me a while to comprehend the 'scene setting' but by chapter 3 the pace had picked up and I found myself unable to resist listening to more. I did run back through the first chapter and all then made sense - I guess that's the beauty of audio books - you can so easily back track if desired. The plot has sufficient depth, twists and turns for me to want to listen to it again in a years time. I can't wait to listen to the next two books in this series. The only downside is that no housework hasn't been done since I downloaded from Audible!
