Publisher's Summary

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.

When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

"A Murder Mystery with a Twist"

At last, the unabridged version of this brilliant book (the first in the Millennium trilogy)is available to download. A disgraced Stockholm journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, is asked to investigate the disappearance (in 1966) of an industrialist's niece. Aided by the 'mentally incompetent' 20-something, Lisbeth Salander (the eponymous Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), the journalist descends into the nightmare underbelly of Swedish society, Saul Reichlin (better known for his narration of David Hewson's Nic Costa novels) does his usual expert job. This has got to be one of the best downloads of 2009.

    "Best of the trilogy"

This is the first and in my opinion the best of the trilogy. This story can stand alone from the two subsequent works, books two and three are in effect two halves of one story.
The character, Lisbeth Sallander is very interesting and as we peel the layers, she becomes more complex. The story line is well thought out and the ending is anything but obvious. Very good listen.

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

I bought this title knowing very little about except that it was a best seller. I have to say I was not disappointed in the least. From the start the book held me and I got to the stage that the converging story lines had me gripped.

The narration was excellent and the voice was easy and pleasant to listen to. The only niggle was towards the end there was an interuption which 'told you to turn the casette over' but apart from that a quality product I would and have recommended to friends and family.

A great book with lots of fantastic characters and a twist at the end. Well worth a listen and well read by Saul. The only criticism is that it was just a little too long with the end seeming to prolong the story unnecessarily.

"A brilliant listen from start to finish!"

I purchased this on a whim after hearing about it shortly after the books were published. It's a brilliant book, modern, diverse, well written and brilliantly narrated. Excellent! I would only ward off those that have weak stomachs as some parts are quite graphic!

A new, exciting, original and absolutely brilliant first novel, the first in the Millennium Trilogy. I just can't understand anyone giving this less than 5 stars. One of the most gripping novels of the decade for sure. Yes, the names are long and awkward for us Brits, but that's only a minor point. I found it absolutely gripping and downloaded the other two books straight after, which just get better and better. It's a real shame Mr. Larsson isn't around to provide us more. Superbly read by Saul Reichlin too. Top notch

    "Really good"

Slow start but when the story gets going you can't stop listening. I listened to this while walking my dog, she got some very long walks! can wait to listen to the next one.

As another reviewer wrote, this book is a great novel, not just a great crime novel. Dickensian in it's scale, and beautifully written. There are faults, but these are only too eagerly forgiven in such a great book. Books like this come along rarely. I cannot fathom how anyone could give this book ONE star, that is wierd, I dread to think what sort of books those people like, why not two or three... but one?!! Get past the first hour, concentrate a bit and it will reward! wonderful. IMHO

    "Compulsive listening"

I hesitated to download this book because of one negative review but was swayed by others that indicated that it was brilliant once you get into it. I agree with the latter. I had to concentrate at the outset to understand the many threads that the author weaves but I was soon hooked! It's not a book I could listen to while doing something else as I tended to lose the plot and had to go back but I found it compulsive listening. I can't wait to hear the next book in the series.
