When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

Really good story full of suspense, suspicion and intrigue. Really well read too. Highly reccommended.
As this book is so popular i thought that i would give it a go, and am still trying to get through it months later. Am finding it a struggle to follow, the naration doesn't keep me engaged as with other books I have bought. When I read a review saying that Stieg Larsson shows Dan Brown how it should be done I bought it, i have listened to all of Dan Browns books and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this has just not gripped me. I will get to the end of it purely because I have bought it.
"Gripping from the first to the last"
Totally gripping storyline. A little slow to get going maybe but the rest makes up for it. Can't wait to listen to Part II and Part III of the Trilogy. Such a pity that Stieg is no longer with us
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Unabridged)""
The story itself is engaging, dramatic, descriptive and gruesome in some parts. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The especially brilliant thing about this audio-book was hearing the correct pronouciation of the place and people names. Often if I can't prononce the name or place I make them up and they end up with very strange and weird nicknames! Brilliant.
Not the usual sort of book that I would have chosen ......... but once into it couldn't put it down. One needs to absorb every piece of information given as every morsel is relavent. I'm onto the next one. It is equally good ... then the third. What shall I do when I have finished that one ???? I be absolutely bereft. I only wished that Stieg Larsson had lived to reap the rewards of these 3 amazing books.
"Give it a go"
As described in other reviews, this did take a little while to get into, especially with the narrator. But having listened to the first book, I have now finished the 2nd and final in the trilogy.
Each book leaves you wanting to know the next part of the story, so would highly recommend. One book follows on really well from the previous one, however, it would be difficult to follow the plot and characters if you do not read in order.
Really enjoyed all 3, and was dissapointed when they ended. Will be searching for additonal great reads.
"The Girls witth the Dragon Tattoo"
I have read the books and wanted to visit this story again so purchased the audio. However, you could easily enjoy the tale without having read it previously. Narration was excellent, easy to listen to....
Story is fast paced and intriguing - I have missed the cinema release so am looking forward to the DVD.
If you like authors such as Patterson, Lee Child and Matthew Reilly I think you'll like Larson.
Great book, couldn't switch it off..........
Forget the comments on it being slow to start - as with all great novels, it's all about setting the tone. This book is utterly compelling - try and find more interesting characters than Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. The storyline is completely unpredictable and so rewarding. Listen and become bewitched. You'll buy the subsequent novels before you've finished this.
