Publisher's summary

Imagine postponing an interview with Fidel Castro to take your daughter to her first day of kindergarten? That's exactly what Maria Shriver did. As a woman who has mastered the balancing act between career and parenting, she shares the lessons she has learned along the way in this audio program. With the tone of a trusting and trusted friend, Shriver boldly touches on such subjects as: the price we pay for giving in to our fears, as well as the relief we feel when we finally face them; the humiliation of swallowing our ego so that we can learn from an abusive experience; the rewards of taking risks and the pain of failure; the joy of finding someone we can love and the limitations of every relationship; how it's never too late to tap the wisdom of others, even our own parents; and the importance of taking what we do seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Ten Things I Wish I'd Known - Before I Went Out into the Real World was expanded from Shriver's acclaimed College of the Holy Cross commencement address.

Recording

I have read this book many times and was looking forwarding to listening to Maria Shriver read it to me as I drove to work. Unfortunately, the quality of the recording is awful!!! I know the original recording was on CDs. When Audible tried to digitize it, they fucked it up big time. Music plays randomly through the reading and the volume fluctuates.

Terrific Listen!

I just finished this book and made my husband listen to the first part. Besides knowing Maria's name, family, Arnold, and her TV personality....I really found I knew very little about her. She's a very brilliant and hard working woman and NOT a "spoiled Kennedy kid!" The list of "Ten Things" is excellent and things I wish I would have known too. I have two neices graduating from high school this year and plan to buy copies of this book for both of them. A great, but short (2:30) listen!

So relatable.

I love Maria’s ability to communicate in a way as if we were old friends.

Great!

Great book! Loved every minute of it. So much is true, and I do wish somebody told me half of what Maria does when I graduated.

A GREAT START!!

What a good listen for anyone who is starting out with life, marriage or everything in between. After reading the reviews and hearing about it for so long, I decided to give it a try for myself and did not regret it. I found this read to be uplifting in some of the chapters and helpful.

Quite disappointed

When the original book came out I LOVED it. Now that I wanted my grandchildren to glean the pearls of wisdom I bought this audible version and discovered that it’s not the same. The emphasis in THIS version is all about her career, and, to my disappointment, the pearls of wisdom that I remembered from the original book are scarcely touched on.
