Publisher's Summary

From Andre Agassi, one of the most beloved athletes in history and one of the most gifted men ever to step onto a tennis court, a beautiful, haunting autobiography.

Agassi's incredibly rigorous training begins when he is just a child. By the age of 13, he is banished to a Florida tennis camp that feels like a prison camp. Lonely, scared, a ninth-grade dropout, he rebels in ways that will soon make him a 1980s icon. He dyes his hair, pierces his ears, dresses like a punk rocker. By the time he turns pro at 16, his new look promises to change tennis forever, as does his lightning-fast return.

And yet, despite his raw talent, he struggles early on. We feel his confusion as he loses to the world's best, his greater confusion as he starts to win. After stumbling in three Grand Slam finals, Agassi shocks the world, and himself, by capturing the 1992 Wimbledon. Overnight, he becomes a fan favorite and a media target.

Agassi brings a near-photographic memory to every pivotal match and every relationship. Never before has the inner game of tennis and the outer game of fame been so precisely limned. Alongside vivid portraits of rivals from several generations - Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer - Agassi gives unstinting accounts of his brief time with Barbra Streisand and his doomed marriage to Brooke Shields. He reveals a shattering loss of confidence. And he recounts his spectacular resurrection, a comeback climaxing with his epic run at the 1999 French Open and his march to become the oldest man ever ranked number one.

With its breakneck tempo and raw candor, Open will be listened to and cherished for years. A treat for ardent fans, it will also captivate listeners who know nothing about tennis. Like Agassi's game, it sets a new standard for grace, style, speed, and power.

"Great listen, get the full version."

I have been a tennis fan for a number of years and was eager to listen to this audiobook.
I got the abridged version because I thought the complete version would be too long and I would get tired of it, but there are some great stories, and I'm left wanting more.
My advice is get the full version, if you are a tennis fan I think you will enjoy it.

    "Honest & Entertaining"

Andre writes an amazingly honest & clear picture of himself. Funny, heart-breaking & without a sense of self. His recollections of matches, relationships & events in his life, are written in photographic detail. You can tell by the cover picture alone, that this a person who wants to tell their story, from the heart & not the ego.

    "Loved it"

I listen to audible while training for ultra races. Every morning I looked forward to my 10+ mile run while listening to Agassi's wild ride through his professional tennis career. The narrator didn't seem to match the character represented and what I would expect from this story. I guess it was a little droll but not to the point of interfering with the story. Regardless, it a GREAT listen!

    Story
"Better to read it yourself, then to listen to this"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book was solid! Great background, well written but the guy reading it sounded like a robot. It really ruined it for me. I was engaged in the story so much that I'm still trying to endure the pain of listening to this man read about Andre's life.

What did you like best about this story?

Learning about Andre's childhood, the behind the scenes of Andre’s life.

Would you be willing to try another one of Erik Davies’s performances?

Did I lose a bet? Andre, was this one of your friends? There has to be a better job for him than this.

Was Open worth the listening time?

Listening in general, yes. Listening to Erik – no.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe we can crowd fund someone else to redo the book?

    Any additional comments?

Was recommended to me as a good example of autobiographical storytelling. I didn't know anything about tennis, and had little previous awareness of the personalities involved. Even on this basis, I enjoyed it very much.

This book brought me back to my youthful tennis days when Agassi and Sampras ruled. I only wish Agassi was the narrator.

    "I LOVE IT!"
Where does Open rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    IT'S MY NUMER 1

What did you like best about this story?

What about Erik Davies’s performance did you like?

Me anchando la forma en que narro el libro, complemento perfecto.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    OPEN

    Any additional comments?

    Recomendado! 100% Recommended.

I was a moderate fan of Agassi but am now a real fan of the successes he had had off the court with his school, etc.

Good detail on his inner thoughts and exciting descriptions of important games.

What does Erik Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Added drama and passion to descriptions of games.
