In this often violent but always introspective memoir, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy tells his much-anticipated story of struggle, survival, and hope on the mean streets of New York City. For the first time, he gives an intimate look at his family background, his battles with drugs, his life of crime, his relentless suffering with sickle-cell anemia, and more. Recently released after serving three and a half years in state prison for what many consider an unlawful arrest, Prodigy is ready to talk about his life as one of rap’s greatest legends.
My Infamous Life is an unblinking account of Prodigy’s wild times with Mobb Deep, who, alongside rappers like Nas, the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Jay-Z, and the Wu-Tang Clan, changed the musical landscape with their vivid portrayals of early ’90s street life. It is a firsthand chronicle of legendary rap feuds like the East Coast - West Coast rivalry.
Taking listeners behind the smoke-and-mirrors glamour of the hip-hop world, Prodigy lays down the truth about the intoxicating power of money, the meaning of true friendship, and the ultimately redemptive power of self. This is the heartbreaking journey of a child born in privilege, his youth spent among music royalty, and educated in private schools, until a family tragedy changed everything. Raised in the mayhem of the Queensbridge projects, Prodigy rose to dizzying heights of fame and eventually fell into the darkness of a prison cell.
A truly candid memoir, part fearless confessional and part ode to the concrete jungles of New York City, My Infamous Life is written by a man who was on the front line of the last great moment in hip-hop history and who is still fighting to achieve his very own American Dream.

I loved Mobb Deep growing up in the early 90s and this book definitely brought back some memories. Can't believe Prodigy's life was that crazy. I only have one question: When does the movie come out? Great stuff and extremely interesting!
There are elements of this book that would grow boring if recounted by a less skilled wordsmith. Prodigy has the charisma and perspective to take the fights, the guns, the drugs, the womanizing, and the industry politics that are common in hip-hop memoirs and craft from them an interesting narrative work of thoughtful introspection. Prodigy sounds like a man grateful for life and happy to be alive, a sharp contrast to the darkness of some of Mobb Deep's more familiar works, and his exuberance is infectious. Once I started listening to this in the car, I found myself looking for reasons to go on errands so I could knock off another chapter.
Talk about a great story very detailed and interesting. I never was a fan of Prodigy, but after hearing his perspective I've gained a new respect for him and Mobb Deep. I wish him nothing but success in the future and I've been catching up on his music since hearing his story. He truly had a musical background and came a long way. Continue fighting I'm rooting for you.
The story was very entertaining and revealed alot of information about one of legends in the game. I think prodigy did a great job in the flow of the story and reading the information precise and clear...but still having the presence to know when to go off script. He did a great job and I would defiantly recomend the book to listen (especially for those who grew of in that era)..........straight up.
Words are inadequate to me,to describe the soul wrenching, thought provoking and hair-raising description bro Albert "Prodigy " Johnson depicts in his audio book. From his early beginning life experience in a tough unemphatic school,to growing up in drug filled streets,up until his arrest on minimal infractions ostensibly used to try and frame other hip individuals through a infamous "hip-hop Strike Force". Incredible what the police wanted him to do against other hip artists.
I only wish other would be artists who are trying to emulate Prodigy(the best parts),would listen carefully to the wisdom of
is words,on what to do and what not to do in this genre of entertainment. I thought bro Albert "Prodigy" was extremely honest, sincere and wise. I must have listen to this audio book 3 or 4 times.
I was especially happy that he gave reference to actually youtube videos of certain events, and even more thrilled to have couple of ganster rap songs about 10 minutes near the end of audio book part2,Prodigy's rap art is truly prodigious.
Great Great job Prodigy. This audio book is a must listen. You will not stop listening until its is completed.
Thanks Brother Prodigy!! Peace!
My Infamous Life is a must have for any fan of late 90's hip hop music. The story is compelling and Prodigy comes off as a great narrator as you get an insider point of view on many of the most significant events that shaped the landscape of hip hop music at the time.
As a 44 year old Hospital Executive and life long Hip Hop fan, I have loved Mobb Deep since 1995. I knew their epic power as artist and trend setters in the industry. I did not know the powerful history and inside story of their rise to fame. I am so inspired by this story of Albert Johnson aka Prodigy. I am so proud to see how "we" in Hip Hop have grown up and become men with the ability to tell our own story in the written word. This is how we live forever. This narrative is riveting and revealing. So glad to have listened to it. We need more stories like this from the Greatest era of music. This is a must listen!
I loved the entire book! Give it a while to pick-up in the beginning. It started a little slower than I would've preferred, only because I went into it expecting all of the stories I heard from snippets on YouTube. After I got past the first chapter or two, I literally couldn't stop listening! I found myself listening in times/places I had no business doing so.
