Publisher's summary

The fall and rise of a heavy metal icon.

Dave Mustaine is the first to admit that he's bottomed out a few times in his dark and twisted speed metal version of a Dickensian life.

Impoverished, transient childhood? Check.

Abusive, alcoholic parent? Check.

Mind-fucking religious weirdness (in his case the extremes of the Jehovah's Witnesses and Satanism)? Check.

Alcoholism, drug addiction, homelessness? Check, check, check.

Soul-crushing professional and artistic setbacks? Check.

Rehab? Check (seventeen times, give or take).

Near-death experience? Check that one, too.

James Hetfield, with whom many years ago Mustaine founded a band known as Metallica, once observed, with some incredulity, that Mustaine must have been born with a horseshoe up his ass. That's how lucky he's been, how fortunate he is to be pulling breath after so many close calls. And Hetfield is right. Mustaine has been lucky. He has been blessed. But here's the thing about having a horseshoe lodged in your rectum: It also hurts like hell. And you never forget it's there.

Mustaine has battled through it all to achieve dizzying heights. From the early, heady days of Metallica, being unceremoniously let go only to become a world-famous rock star - founder, front man, singer, songwriter, and guitarist (and de facto CEO) for Megadeth, one of the most popular bands in heavy metal - Mustaine's is a story that will inspire, stun, and terrify.

Dave Mustaine describes life in Megadeth in sharp detail.

If you are a music lover, specifically 80’s metal scene, this book is for you. Dave Mustaine goes in detail about different aspects of his life, his band Megadeth, bandmates, vices, past and current feelings towards the band that he help built, Metallica. A must read for metal lovers and others trying to make it as band in the music business.

Dave Mustaine is a better man than I thought

Witten intelligently and honestly. After reading this book I'm a bigger fan of the band and the man Megadeth and Dave Mustaine

Mustaine a must read for anyone interested in rock

Enjoyable listen, Dave wrote from his heart and seem to try and make amends with some of the mistakes he has made through his life. I have a lot more respect for him than ever before, always heard the whining stories without his side really. He is quiet inspiring with the adversity he has been faced with and come out in the end on top. I listen to his music with a whole new found respect and insight.
I am a atheist and at first listen thought Dave might be the same. Guess he has found something in his life that helps him through without jamming J.C down your throat. Much respect with his stance on religion. Seems to have grown up to be quiet a man.

Incredible. Ineffable.

Ooed, AHed, laughed, cried! Was inspired, was terrified, was comforted, and overall fueled my passion for music, life and God. Beautiful. I am so satisfied.

A Masterpiece

I’m a big big big fan of Megadeth, so will sound a bit biased here and to be honest with all music fanatics out there; this is a great listen and a must! Never thought it is that hard to be in the music business and managing a band, let alone a name like Megadeth. The narrator did a phenomenal job which felt he knows Mustaine and Megadeth inside out. Do yourself a favor and pick this up.
