Publisher's summary

Already a number-one London Sunday Times best seller, Mud, Sweat, and Tears is the adrenaline-fueled autobiography of the mega-popular star of the hit survival series Man vs. Wild, adventurer Bear Grylls. A former British Special Forces commando, a man who has always sought the ultimate in dangerous challenges, Bear's true story reads like an outdoors action-and-adventure novel. But Bear's story is true - full of breathtaking escapes and remarkable exploits that would make any Jack London or H. Ryder Haggard hero proud.

Love this book

I think the ultimate measuring stick for me on a book is whether after listening to it I want to purchase the book version for myself or others and this book really hits it on the head and I will be ordering the written version.

I found this book to be inspiring, honest, and overall very entertaining. Sometimes on Man vs Wild, Bear would take risks or do things I doubt he would do in a real similar situation for the purpose of entertaining the audience and he talks about that in the book.

It paints a beautiful picture of this man who loves the outdoors, challenges, and adventure but is also driven to be a good husband and father to his kids. The description of what he went through to get into the SAS is inspiring and made me feel like any challenges I have could be pretty trivial and doable in comparison.

Only complaint as other reviewers have said is I wish Bear had done the narrative himself. He has a very humorous and entertaining way of talking, I'm sure honed by years of motivational speaking talks he has given.

Corny, but Fun

Any additional comments?

Much like any of Bear Grylls TV shows, this book is a bit gung-ho, corny, but irrepressibly fun.

I enjoyed the stories about his military training and I think it is full of good life-advice for younger listeners. He manages references to his religious beliefs tastefully - it is an account of his life so it should play a prominent role in his story, but is not preachy or overbearing.

The most annoying thing about the book was that at the end of every chapter there is a one liner that is meant to summarize the theme or add punch. As I got further in to the book I started to anticipate them and enjoy their oversimplifying corniness. And by the end of the book it became hilarious.

Definitely recommended for Bear fans, people interested in a military career and young people who want some life advice from someone who has done well for himself.

I want more Bear

Where does Mud, Sweat, and Tears rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was a pretty easy listen. The narrator's accent let me fool myself into believing it was Bear telling me his story directly. I have to say it was probably middle of the pack.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I really enjoyed hearing of Bear's conquests and challenges he overcame. It is very inspiring and makes me want to go out and do something amazing! I just wish it covered more. So much detail into some parts and others were skimmed over.

Bear Grylls

An excellent autobiography of Bear Grylls. We all go through times of pain and darkness. "Take nothing for granted, and never give up". How faith makes the difference!

Amazing!! I already want to start it again!

Brilliant and absolutely inspiring! A very good performance, only way it could have been better is if Bear read it himself! Amazing life!
