A Conversation with A Friend

As Mindy Kaling spoke, it felt as if I was speaking to an old friend and catching up on times. You laugh till you cry, say WTF? so many times, and say I'm not the only one! Has you hooked from the beginning to the end and wishing it would keep going!

What made the experience of listening to Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) the most enjoyable?

She keeps the listener engaged by varying up the style and content. Sometimes she is reading off a list with sassy asides; sometimes she is describing long stories; sometimes she is presenting more typical stand up comedy material.

What did you like best about this story?

She's hilarious, knew that going in, but she blows the reader away with a lot of personal stories that are quite relatable. I've bookmarked the section on best friend code of conduct and have played it for my friends...so spot on! Ridiculous stuff that I didn't expect like being a nanny for some rich family in the city, saying the wrong thing in professional situations, etc.,

Which character – as performed by Mindy Kaling and Michael Schur – was your favorite?

Mindy, duh! But I like the myriad of voices she employs when narrating dialogue by someone else.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole thing is such a pick me up that it is now my go-to when I'm feeling kind of low. Sometimes I fast forward to a random chapter and I am never disappointed with where it lands. I've enjoyed listening to some parts over again and catching new details. I'm not usually one to re-read books, and I've never bookmarked chapters in an audiobook before, but this book made me want to revisit her stories for some comic relief and insight.

I love Mindy Kaling, she is hilarious

If you're in the mood for some laughs, this is the audio book for you. A great story by hilarious writer. I enjoyed every minute!

Light-hearted, funny, happy - just like Mindy! Wish it was longer, finished in two sittings. Highly recommend for Mindy’s fans :)

My wife and I listened to this on a road trip and absolutely loved it. Heartfelt and delightful, we highly recommend this audio book.

A good book to pass the time away.

The stories were interesting to hear but why all the profanity? I don't have be reminded that you're an adult if you think all adults use profanity, they don't.

Great, easy listen. Very funny and truthful. She was very honest and felt like I was simply listening to a friend.

I haven't listened to any other books by her. I'm not sure there are any.

What does Mindy Kaling and Michael Schur bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've listened to books where I felt I'd like it better if I was just reading it myself. But my inner reading voice wouldn't have translated Mindy's humor as well her own voice does.
