This isn't a memoir like most memoirs. It's an audiobook only Bob Newhart could have conceived, with his unique worldview and irrepressibly wry humor. Oh, and there's a fair bit of plain silliness, too.

"Bob Newhart is a great comedian and a great American." (David Hyde Pierce)
I agree with Monica from Woodstock, GA. How can you not love Bob? I was a kid when the first Bob Newhart show was on TV, so had not heard all the old routines. Perhaps if I had the book would be a rehash, but for me it was just a joy to have Bob back in my living room.
Newhart's comedy sprinkled in here and there with a light biography of Newhart's experiences make this a great read. This is really more of Bob Newhart telling "behind the scenes" stories of events in his life with his dry wit than a bio. Thoroughly enjoyed this, only wish it was longer.
Bob Newhart was just a few years before my time, but I did have exposure to the Newhart shows and his comedy routines recently, and he's become one of my favorite all-time comedians. In this, his audiobiography, he is a little older, and isn't as energetic as he used to be, but he's still as witty and enjoyable as ever. It's a refreshing look at a good man and a good humorist.
I have MS and LD and make spelling and grammar mistakes, please forgive the handicap.
That Bob Newhart stammered through the whole book. That he read it himself, Telling some of his best jokes, from all his albums.
That Bob Newhart told some of his best jokes dating back to Button Down Mind to the Present, I would not have bought if I did not enjoy Newhart's humor and I got it in a large book size release.
The old stuff like Driver Instructor and some of the phone call routines he did in the book that were also on his old albums. I loved those old albums and got a few on CD, I love listening to them. Mostly the best of kind thing but some of the older ones. My parent still had Button Down Mind and I would listen to it all the time in college. Brings back good memories.
Made me laugh really hard, I love his slow build up humor, it is just plan funny and with out a lot of cussing or swearing.
Newhart was always one of a kind in the world of comedy, I wish there were more like him.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Bob's stories and antedotes. He's lead quite an interesting life, remained humble and not your typical stand up comedian. He's clean, funny, and true to his craft. I am a huge fan. 😃
Christmas 1962, my older sister, a recent college graduate, gave me 2 LP's. My Name José Jimenez by comedian Bill Dana and Button Down Mind. I was 13 years years old. She always loved my laugh and those LP'S provided our family with lots of them.
I wish I could say that those albums propelled me into a career in comedy but no they didn't. I believe they did form my sense of humor and effect my personality. I certainly fell in love with Bob.
I read the reviews before purchasing and was wondering how anyone could have a negative opinion of anything Bob does. After listening, I realized why- they probably are too young to really know the comedic geniuses that Bob talks about. Too bad.
For those looking for a upbeat, uplifting listen, this recording is for you.
I love Bob Newhart and this was an excellent book!
I enjoyed it so much more because he narrated it himself and no one else can talk like Bob Newhart.
Definately worth listening too again and again.
Bob Newhart manages to cover his entire history, from entering show business, to now, all the while maintaining his low-key, addictive personal mannerisms. Always in character, he shares bumping elbows with decades of other top performers from New York, thru Vegas, and L.A.
Newhart fans will not be disappointed.
I love to hear his voice, something about it is familiar and warm. He makes me smile even if I have heard this stuff before. Get this if you are a true Bob Newhart fan.....
Longer than I've been alive, I've been a fan of Bob Newhart. My father was a huge fan so if Bob was on our TV that is what the family - born and unborn - watched. It's odd to think of Bob as a Chicago native for he seems the ultimate small town guy. Thanks for recording this bio.
