Editorial reviews

Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick writes and performs this moving memoir about the struggles that have shaped her life beyond the television program that made her a household name.

McCormick is a likable narrator, and her tone is accessibly confidential - listening to her story feels like sitting down with a good friend and getting the whole scoop. She brings a tone of vulnerability to this performance of her own life story, and her thorough, thoughtful self-reflection further introduces an element of raw intensity to this engrossing tell-all audiobook.

Publisher's summary

Marcia Brady, eldest daughter on television's The Brady Bunch, had it all. But what viewers didn't know about the always sunny, perfect Marcia was that offscreen, her real-life counterpart, Maureen McCormick, was living a very different - and not so wonderful - life. Maureen tells the shocking and inspirational true story of the beloved teen and the woman she became.

Maureen takes us behind the scenes of America's favorite television family. But the real story begins after The Brady Bunch ended. Maureen found herself tangled in a fast-paced, drug-fueled Hollywood existence that ultimately led to the biggest battle of her life.

There is no question: Maureen McCormick is a survivor. Here's the Story is the empowering, engaging, shocking, and emotional tale of Maureen McCormick's courageous struggle over adversity and her lifelong battle to come to terms with the idea of perfection - and herself.

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!!!

Her life definitely wasn't like the Brady Bunch portrait. Who knew that she was really a train wreck. Great book. Love her voice.

Lovely

Maureen gives a wonderful reading of her life story. I didn’t want it to end. This book is as fascinating as it is insightful, and will give you a rather large glimpse at the girl behind the Brady.

meh just so-so expected more

best part was Maureen narrating the book herself, at times you could just hear the difficult emotions on the edge of her voice, the story lacked. I think the details were good but parts felt rushed over as if the surface was only skimmed

I loved it

As a life long fan, I really enjoyed this. Especially since Maureen read her own story.

Excellent book!!

I loved this book, and I can’t believe it has taken me so long to purchase it. I listened to the audiobook, and there is just something about listening to an autobiography narrated by the author. I am so thankful that Maureen shared her story. While I can’t relate to the drug use, I CAN relate to the anxiety and depression part. Like Maureen, I had to learn that, not only was I NOT in control of everything I wanted to be in control of, but that was okay. There were parts of that part of her story that I thought, “Wow! She could be telling MY story!”
It takes a very courageous person to put oneself out there like she did, and to write a book like she did, and I am so thankful. It was so interesting to learn about the behind the scenes of the “Brady years”, but I am so happy that she wrote way beyond that time of her life. Maureen McCormick is so much more than Marcia Brady.

Not the entire book

This is a great book and Maureen does a great job of narrating it but much of the book is not in the audio content. There must be a difference version of the book that she was reading. Otherwise it was great but really hard to listen and read at the same time. The chapters were not the same as the audio version either.

Very engaging!

I found myself eager to need to take a car ride so I could keep listening to Maureen's story. I was shocked at the hardships she's faced, and it was very riveting the whole way through. I'm not a big Brady fan, but my curiosity paid off. I recommend this book if you like to hear about how others have overcome obstacles. She tells her story in a very honest, earnest way. Great!

An eye opener for a Brady

I did enjoy this book but nowhere near as much as Valarie Bertinelli's, maybe because of the way it was read or the story itself just didn't have the same impact. It was very informative and a worth the listen but at times her reading of it can be over dramatised for want of a better word, slow also comes to mind.

Great Story well-told

I got the Audible version for my commute. Even though Maureen is maddeningly gullible at times, she is brutally honest about it. The book doesn't linger it keeps moving forward in a cohesive manner.
