Editorial reviews

Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick writes and performs this moving memoir about the struggles that have shaped her life beyond the television program that made her a household name.

McCormick is a likable narrator, and her tone is accessibly confidential - listening to her story feels like sitting down with a good friend and getting the whole scoop. She brings a tone of vulnerability to this performance of her own life story, and her thorough, thoughtful self-reflection further introduces an element of raw intensity to this engrossing tell-all audiobook.

Publisher's summary

Marcia Brady, eldest daughter on television's The Brady Bunch, had it all. But what viewers didn't know about the always sunny, perfect Marcia was that offscreen, her real-life counterpart, Maureen McCormick, was living a very different - and not so wonderful - life. Maureen tells the shocking and inspirational true story of the beloved teen and the woman she became.

Maureen takes us behind the scenes of America's favorite television family. But the real story begins after The Brady Bunch ended. Maureen found herself tangled in a fast-paced, drug-fueled Hollywood existence that ultimately led to the biggest battle of her life.

There is no question: Maureen McCormick is a survivor. Here's the Story is the empowering, engaging, shocking, and emotional tale of Maureen McCormick's courageous struggle over adversity and her lifelong battle to come to terms with the idea of perfection - and herself.

Fun story

Fun, interesting story. What made it so good is that the author narrates the book herself!

LOVE LOVE LOVE You, Maureen!!!

This book is so candid, honest and beautiful, that although I could have read through in one sitting, I literally had to take breaks due to the emotions I was feeling. Anyone who grew up idolizing Marcia, and even those who didn't, will be shocked, moved to tears, tenderly amused at times, sometimes disturbed and totally captivated by this sincere account of a young woman's journey into adulthood. I really admire Maureen for telling her story so honestly and lovingly. I had no idea. What an inspiring read.

more than marcia

I appreciated hearing the author narrate her own book. it is to her credit that she was able to transcend the challenges her personal life threw her way-and come out on the other side, insightful and whole.

Wonderful

A frank and honest autobiography by a fragile yet incredibly strong woman. I loved her narration, her compassion and her strength in the face of family, addiction and stardom pressures. A real, human, success story.

Enjoyed this story

Hard to believe watching someone grow up on tv in front of you can hide so many realities of life and struggles…thank goodness there was no social media back then to exploit their pain

Great book.

This was a great book to listen too. I’m always amazed at the lives Hollywood stars led and lead today. I grew up on this show. I wanted a family just like them. You know, honest and loving and every problem that arose was fixed by great parents. Imaging my amazement when I find out they were real people too. Thank you Maureen for writing this. As hard as it was. It shows us that even though you were on the screen life was just like everyone else.

If you’re looking for Brady knowledge this isn’t it.

I came for some insights on the ubiquitous after school TV show, The Brady Bunch. But there was truly very little of that in this book. It was tough to sit through. It veered into chatty personal things that she would talk to her friends about over lunch. it was however, neat to hear about her personal redemption and her ultimate salvation. Just know what you’re going to listen to when buying this book.
