Publisher's Summary

This no-holds-barred autobiography chronicles the remarkable life of Phil Robertson, the original Duck Commander and Duck Dynasty star, from early childhood through the founding of a family business.

Life was always getting in the way of Phil Robertson’s passion for duck hunting.

An NFL-bound quarterback, Phil made his mark on Louisiana Tech University in the 1960s by playing football and completing his college career with a master’s degree in English. But Phil’s eyes were not always on the books or the ball; they were usually looking to the sky.

Phil grew up with the dream of living the simple life off the land like his forebears, but he soon found himself on a path to self-destruction - leasing a bar, drinking too much, fighting, and wasting his talents. He almost lost it all until he gave his life to God. And then everything changed.

Phil’s incredible story tells how he followed a calling from God and soon after invented a duck call that would begin an incredible journey to the life he had always dreamed of for himself and his family. With great love for his country, his family, and his maker, Phil has finally found the ingredients to the "good life" he always wanted.

"Straightforward explanation of a better way..."
If you could sum up Happy, Happy, Happy in three words, what would they be?

I guess it would be, "Set Priorities Correctly". Mr Robertson does an outstanding job of presenting his simple, straightforward approach to life, focusing on the things that matter most. Many folks say we won't look back on life and regret not making more money, but instead will wish we had been better focused on what was more important, etc. Here is a story of someone who turned down other opportunities that most only dream of, so that he could pursue life doing what he loves to do, with those he loves the most.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mr Robertson's outstanding wife, Kay. The book clearly shows how she stood by her husband during thick and thin through the good, bad, and even terrible. Miss Kay is a woman of incredible strength who held her family together through the tough times so they made it through. Proverbs 31:25 says of the virtuous woman, "Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come." There are not too many examples of women nowadays who are displaying the kind of strength and devotion to their families that we see in Miss Kay in this book. In Plymouth MA, at the Memorial to the Women of the Mayflower, there is an inscription that reads, "They brought up their families in sturdy virtue and a living faith in God without which nations perish." This book taught me there are still ladies described by that inscription.

    Which scene was your favorite?

After Phil had repented and Miss Kay was standing in the church with three young sons watching his baptism. This event marked the incredible contrast seen between the mess we all tend to make of our lives in our own strength, and the beautiful, remarkable work the Savior does in our lives by His amazing grace. Proverbs 16:25 says "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." This scene shows the turning point when Phil realized this truth and turned his life over to Jesus. In the rest of the book, we get to see (or hear in the audio version) the remarkable difference that Jesus makes in their family to the glory of God.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would loved to have listened to it in one sitting, but I use audible books for my commute, so alas, I spread it out over several days... The Lord did provide a snowy/icy drive in today which took much longer so I got to finish up a day or so early.

    Any additional comments?

This book has already become a family read/listen aloud, and will be mandatory reading for my children as they learn to be Godly men and women. Thank you Phil and Kay for sharing your story and sharing the remarkable work that Jesus has done in your lives and in your family. If more of us would listen to your simple straightforward advice and stick to God's designed way of doing things, this world would be a much better place. That's kind of what this book was about and I thought it was outstanding. I gave it four stars instead of five for "performance" because (nothing against Alan) I would have loved for Phil to have read the entire book. He did the intro and I loved hearing his words in his voice. It was a good reading by his son, but would have been even better in Phil's voice.

"Loved it, loved it, loved it!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Happy, Happy, Happy to be better than the print version?

Yes, because both Al and Phil Robertson have perfect voices for narrating this subject matter, and it adds so much to the stories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Happy, Happy, Happy?

I loved the part where he gave up professional football because it would interfere with duck hunting season, but I really enjoyed the spiritual discussions - and there were many of those.

Have you listened to any of Al Robertson and Phil Robertson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't heard them before, but I would certainly listen to them again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. The stories and the way they are told are so entertaining I couldn't stop listening.

    Any additional comments?

This is a great book for anyone who enjoys hunting and fishing. It's also a great book about how God uses you just the way you are to witness for Him. I found it deeply entertaining and encouraging.

Great story of a simply, happy, God loving family! You understand a lot more about this family after this book. I love them even more than before! Read in the beginning by Phil himself and then his oldest son takes over. Happy Happy Happy!

"Great story, but not read by Phil"
Would you listen to Happy, Happy, Happy again? Why?

Well it's a fantastic story, however I was hoping Phil was the reader. Phil does read the opening however that lasts but a few minutes then Al Robertson takes over the reading.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! This book isn't just for duck hunters or hunters in general, this book is for those who do, or wish to have strong social morals and family values.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Happy, Happy, Happy?

When Phil was young and he considered his family "self-contained" or "self-supporting" because they lived off of what they had on their farm or found growing wild, or hunting. I was raised like that, and at the time I considered us poor, now I realize I was raised "organic"!

Which character – as performed by Al Robertson and Phil Robertson – was your favorite?

    Phil Robertson

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
