Publisher's summary

"It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I'd still be screwed, because there's no way I'd ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors."

The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

With Guts, Johnston takes us on a journey so truthful and relatable, so remarkably fresh, it promises to stay with the listener for a long, long time.

Any additional comments?

This is an amazingly raw honest bio read by an amazing voice narrator. I was compelled to listen to it all in one sitting. And I want to listen to it again as I am sure I missed some funny subtle parts.

It is really eye opening for everyone dealing with their addictions or the addictions or loved ones and how to think about our lives.

Thank you so much Kristen! Please write more!

Wow!

This book itself is fantastic but I want to say this is one of the best, if not the all time best, audiobook performances I’ve ever heard. I now was Kristen Johnston to read everything to me.

I’m so impressed.

Undoubtedly Exceptional

You have touched so many lives by being brave and sharing your story with us. While reading your book, many times I thought how much of it relates to my life and life growing up. It's extremely difficult to hear the agonizing details of how a person in long term recovery ultimately thinks and how much pain they physically feel. Seeing/Reading this gives me a new perspective on how to help my son and others in the same situation. God bless Ms Johnston... you are one amazing Chick!

Would like to see more from Kristen Johnston.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Her performance was energetic and fun. I could feel her presence...as if she were in your living room telling you her story.

Any additional comments?

Guts is a fairly typical actor hits rock bottom and recovers story but it's a fun, breezy, laugh-out-loud ride as narrated by Kristen Johnston herself. Not sure if it would be as enjoyable as a regular read. I think she should try her hand at fiction using her in-your-face, loud, physical, and very funny voice.

Triumph Over Tragedy Never Sounded So Good

First, this is the best narration performance I've ever, Ever, EVER heard. Kristen's sultry, rich, expressive voice is ahhhmmaaazzzing... I wouldn't care if she was reading the yellow pages; this girl could make anything sound interesting and entertaining. Couple her better than Bacall voice with the story of her life, a crazy life (and she's only 45), with no fear, no holding back, spilling her GUTS - it is perfection. Creatively told, cleverly written and thoroughly engaging. I can't say enough about this book and I'm convinced that hearing it makes the experience complete. Kristen should read every book ever committed to audio.
