Publisher's summary

"It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I'd still be screwed, because there's no way I'd ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors."

The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

With Guts, Johnston takes us on a journey so truthful and relatable, so remarkably fresh, it promises to stay with the listener for a long, long time.

Out of the BALLPARK!!

What made the experience of listening to Guts the most enjoyable?

Kristen blows the doors off storytelling in this one woman tour-de-force audiobook.
I laughed out loud for at least 1/4 of it, and the other 3/4, I was blissfully tuned in.
She's an absolute creative inspiration of self-deprecation, cutting wit, and insight into the inner workings of life. Kristen nailed this one.

9.9 from the East German judge (cause they never give 10's)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Guts?

Too many to remember

Dark night of the soul

Kristen does a wonderful job of educating those of us who haven't been where she has. She is great to her readers. She kept me interested in her story the entire way through, never a dull moment.

Bravely Raw & Hilarious

I thought I would just begin to listen to it today and finish it later. NOPE, I listened to it in its entirety!
Kristen's narration made it seem as if I could actually see her every description. In my mind, it was a great movie.
Her analogies were hysterical and I was actually laughing out loud, yet felt a little guilty because I know she was in great pain and distress mentally and physically.
I was sad when it was over as I wanted to hear so much more.
I'm so happy that she narrated it herself because it brought me closer to her plight.
Kristen should be proud of herself for making her journey public.

Bared it all for that I am grateful

What a great, easy read. Never watched the TV show, so not real familiar with the author. However, her recount of her experiences with such honesty and humor have made an impact on me. Thanks to the author!

If you could sum up Guts in three words, what would they be?

Many memorable moments, but if I had to choose one it was when she was crying in the hospital and the doctors where uncomfortable with it.

It was a paradox... Sadly funny and I love her voice

amazed

I bought both the Book & Audio versions.
---------
I am someone who glances @ trashy mags at the checkout counters, unless with my classy hubby - he who prefers NOT to be with a wife of horrid taste... well, I had never seen a single reference to anything neg or 😬 offensive about this author/actor.
----------
So I was truly amazed that she had experienced or suffered these particular horrors or joys. Nothing she spoke of was unknown to me ... with 1 exception ---> 😏 KNITTERS.
-----------
Yes, worth triple the price. That is for both the entertainment factor, & for a few things of "personal worth" to me.
AND rather awesome is the fact that the author actually READS it all.
