Publisher's summary

"It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I'd still be screwed, because there's no way I'd ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors."

The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

With Guts, Johnston takes us on a journey so truthful and relatable, so remarkably fresh, it promises to stay with the listener for a long, long time.

Definitely not boring.

Where does Guts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was an interesting diversion from the other books I have been reading. It was fun to listen to, where the others are more informative.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The performance by Kristen Johnston was top notch. Her voice is well suited for audio books.

Any additional comments?

I was sitting in my office, and thought, what happened to the girl from 3rd Rock? I looked her up, and saw this book. I feel Kristen only shared a portion of her story. There must be more there. (Like, when she became sober what happened to her health problems?) Her performance was amazing. I just wonder if she was totally honest?

Do not read this book...Listen to it

What did you love best about Guts?

Kristin Johnston's incredible narration of this book, her wit and writing style.

What was most disappointing about Kristen Johnston’s story?

It ended.

Which scene was your favorite?

Her description of getting ready for her first performance after her 1st hospitalization--well before she should have been out of bed, much less on stage.

Any additional comments?

This book is a perfect example of a book that should be listened to--not read. Perfection! I will listen to this book repeatedly. All I can say is : Kristen (if I may address you by your first name), write and narrate another book soon. I suspect you have more stories to share.

Beautifully told, raw and heartwarming

Kristen tells her story of being a high-functioning addict for years and finally becoming sober. It is beautifully told and addresses the unfair stigma a d shame associated with the disease of addiction. Highly recommend

Raw and Honest

Gutsy accounting of a funny star hitting bottom; dusting herself off and rising back to the top. The author does an outstanding job reading her story and I hope she continues to act, write and narrate. I look forward to a sequel told by this marvelous actress and hearing more about her journey after getting sober.

Loved it! An easy listen.

Soooo funny! After this performance I'd listen to her read the fine print to a cell phone contract. Her and the story are adorable, honest, quick witted and simple.

Addicting

I love her narration of her own words. These were clearly the words from her heart and no one could have done it better.

I was addicted to her story and she must continue writing!

Worth it for the epilogue alone

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am an avid reader of recovery memoirs. I would recommend this to anyone with the same interest, or anyone who likes snarky writing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I expected it to detail more about her recovery and not so much on the story of the infection in the hospital. The final chapter and the epilogue are what touched me most, without them I may not have given this such a high review or liked it as much.
