Publisher's summary

The enthralling inside story of the Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand - told by the leader of the daring underwater rescue mission.

In July 2018, 12 boys and their soccer coach disappeared into the Tham Luang cave in Thailand.

Trapped miles beneath the surface, not even the Thai Navy SEALs had the skills to bring them to safety. With the floodwater rising rapidly, time was running out.

Any hope of survival rested on Rick Stanton, a retired British firefighter with a living room full of homemade cave-diving equipment. As unlikely as it seemed, Rick and his partner, John Volanthen, were regarded as the A-team for exactly this kind of mission.

The Thai Cave rescue was the culmination of a lifelong obsession, requiring every ounce of skill and ingenuity accumulated by Rick over a four-decade pursuit of the unknown.

While the world held its breath, Rick, John, and their assembled team raced against time in the face of near-impossible odds. There was simply no precedent for what they were attempting to do.

Excellent!

Not even Hollywood could write a rescue story this wild. And to think all of this really happened. I discovered this book after I watched Ron Howard’s movie “Thirteen Lives” and found out a handful of the actual rescue divers had written books about the experience. (I’m also going to check out the books by Dr. Harris and John Volanthen. The former is not currently available on Audible, the latter is.) Highly recommend this one, and hoping the next two will be equally compelling.

Excellent Book

I read this book after seeing the Movie, “Thirteen Lives.” I was not disappointed! The book fills out a lot of details that the movie doesn’t have time for, and corrects a few things that were, no doubt, changed for the sake of the screenplay.

More than that it is Rick’s story - his own journey, including many of the details of how he gained the expertise that enabled him and his associates to rescue the boys in Thailand.

The book is well written, well narrated, and uplifting. I feel inspired to be better for having read it.

Wonderful!

Interesting perspective as to circumstances leading to the ultimate challenge. Logistics, problem solving, planning, knowing who, how, and when...all lends itself to be the stuff courageous, successful people are made of.

Great audio book keeps you listening

This a great book on its own but for a even better experience I suggest listening to "The Boys In the Cave" and then listen to this audiobook immediately after. They are great companion books and fantastic listens, Aquanaut narration is very good and well written. Cave diving is serious business and I found myself holding my breath a few times while listening to it.

I can't believe what these Cave divers do but they do it, amazing and scary. Again I do suggest listening to The Boys In the Cave first and then Aquanaut next.
